In this video I'll show how you can create a harp sound in MSF. Next week I'll continue and show how to modify the sound and take it to new places. I hope you find this useful.

It's interesting how much you do to shape the sound before it goes into the resonator. I usually do the filtering and EQing after, but this seems to be a good sounding approach as well. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the video.

Thanks. In some cases it doesn't matter if you filter before or after, but for some effects it actually does change depending on the placement. I generally try to think of it as if it were a real instrument, so if I'm trying to alter the sound of the pick I do it before the resonator, but if I want to alter the sound of the string I do it after. Of course it doesn't always matter, but its easier for me when I have to go back and change things(physical modeling can get confusing).Held wrote: Sat May 01, 2021 4:30 pm It's interesting how much you do to shape the sound before it goes into the resonator. If you ever do a video on extreme low frequencies, the title could be: HAARP in MSF.
Much thanks for your videos, they are very inspiring.

That's very true. Do you have any books or resources on physical modeling you are basing your tutorials on? If so, I would appreciate it if you could share them.

Unfortunately I don't know of any books. I just look online and read the research papers on them and experiment myself. If you search for karplus-strong, modal synthesis and wave guide synthesis, you can find some papers about it. A lot of it has to do with personal experimentation however.Held wrote: Mon May 03, 2021 4:01 pmThat's very true. Thanks. I found some interesting material. Looks like I need to brush up on my physics and math skills to actually understand what's going on there.
I also look forward to more of your videos and experiments. They are very inspiring.

To me your creation actually sounds much more like a Koto right now. One would have to shape the overtone spectrum to get more of a harp sound.

According to the description in the YT video, there's a second video to come.CableChannel wrote: Wed May 05, 2021 10:10 am To me your creation actually sounds much more like a Koto right now. One would have to shape the overtone spectrum to get more of a harp sound.
