i have a diy midi controller with 4 joysticks. i'd like to have hive2 'remember' cc assigns for all 4 of the xy controllers globally rather than on a patch by patch basis.
i can easily choose cc values to output. are there default values i should be using?

Open Hive's preferences (the cogwheel in the upper right corner), switch to the MIDI table page, click add to create a new entry, and in the parameter list, find the "XY" entry. This one contains the eight X and Ys. Create eight entries, one for each parameter, and assign them to the CC numbers your joysticks use. The MIDI table is saved globally.
