] Peter:H [ wrote: Sun May 09, 2021 9:29 am Are you sure? Tiobe does the Programming Language Charts based on searches as well as other indidcators ... I think we cannot add "bitwig job offers" here, but still we have the "search thing". And in terms of "importance" it's not relevant whether the licenses are bought or not ... if the community is big enough it get's and keeps tracktion and adds to growing a topic/product. Because customers that consider buying a DAW will surely look into how big is this and will I get community support ... https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/

Let's turn this positive - What can we do to spread the word? I have a big interest in BItwig growing and prosper, because I love Bitwig already and I love the mindset of the people behind it.

BTW: Interesting to add "FL Studio" to the google trends as well...
Of course not, nobody can be sure. Anyway, this can more be seen as a trend (the ups and downs) than a comparison, at least that is how I see it.

I really thought, and still think, that Bitwig was/is a popular DAW (even though some "supporters" can be pretty "denying" in some ways). It does things in a different way, and that's what I admire about it, as well as Reason. Studio One, for instance, is a linear DAW, it's not a DAW that feeds your creativity. It's more a DAW you pull up when you have an idea, not when you are trying to get inspiration. This is where Bitwig shines, IMO.

More videos with how creativity can flow using Bitwig needs to be uploaded to YouTube. If you're not visible, you don't exist. Today YouTube is ruled by FL Studio, Live, Logic and Cubase, with Studio One growing. I don't know how "old" Bitwig is, but compared to all of the mentioned Bitwig is a youngster. In this case I would fear more for Reason, as they seem to have about the same amount of searches according to the same statistic tool. And Reason is much older than Bitwig.

FL Studio is about 10x higher search traffic on average, but it has been around 23 years and has a cheap entry level and lifetime free updates as a USP. IL have definitely not been shy on marketing ;-)

If someone is typing these things in Google Search I am not sure how series they are...probably looking for pirated versions, but still I guess an indication of awareness, desirability and ultimately popularity.

Sure, the sentence above is taken out of context, but this is exactly where Bitwig shines, as a tool. A tool of creativity. Every DAW has its pros and cons, but tbh, I don't see many cons in Bitwig (even though I use Studio One and Reason more). The reason for using Studio One more is quite obvious though, there is no DAW that is even close to having a more straight forward workflow. But when it comes to Bitwig you can still get things done quickly without consulting the manual, and you can be very creative using it.

DAWS last 12 months including Logic

More interesting- swapped out Logic for Reaper and put it since 2004- watch Cubase loose its interest and Reaper take off- I wonder if that is reflected in revenue/market share?!

What ever way you look at it, Bitwig has had no real growth (in interest) at all since it was launched almost seven years ago which must be a bit worrying when you look at the others from launch....we all know how good it is, others have either never heard of it or think its some weird niche product.

The DAW market is over-saturated, and it's of course not easy to release something new now and reach worldwide control, but can we compare more with "newer" DAW's, like Tracktion and Reaper, instead of the old dinosaurs, I think it would look better.

Also, "Reaper" (or Reason for that matter) as a search term might not be the best comparison.

Even compared to a phrase like ‘reaper studio’ or ‘reaper daw’ Bitwig has less then half the hits. It’s not really the direct comparisons that would bother me if I was Bitwig owner/investor, it would be the lack of growth in awareness in 7 years, no real spikes in interest when things like the grid are launched....they all play to the existing niche market (like me) who are already in!

Why is "Studio One" showing data before 2009 when it was released? :)

Maybe because Abbey Roads famous studio is called Studio One? :)

Also, there is an american TV show from 1947 named Studio One :P

Yeh, there is definitely a limit to the usefulness of the data without significant filtering...but again, perhaps not for 'Bitwig' unless I have missed another meaning!

Now if it was called 'Blue Tits Studio' (as in the bird!) it would be number one in all the trends!

Joking aside, Bitwig is small with limited resources but low overheads, they may well be happy with the uptake and they may be at their limit with the ability to cope with what they have...Ultimately as long as they are profitable enough for long term sustainability that's all that matters, they only have market share to grown in to really unlike the 'bigger' DAWS with 100's of staff that may seem popular but could be loosing market share/money and have bigger worries...

Last one ;-)

Studio One and Reaper now only searches related to software (not exactly like for like but it doesn't actually make much difference). The date from Bitwig launch (2014). One thing is for sure, all the major DAWS are now fighting for the same bit of market as they now pretty much all do everything! Bitwigs only bump in interest was when it was launched.

Seems "legit", except one thing. There is NO WAY Reaper is more used than Studio One, so one thing that tells you cannot really trust this fully :)

Charts or no charts, i think we all already know that bw, as it is right now, is a niche product. it has his unique and awesome features, it might work for some people as their main daw, but for the vast majority, there might be a lot of reasons why they stay with the "old dinossaurs". I have my reasons to stay with ableton + studio one, other people have their reasons to stay with reaper, logic, fl, whatever... it is what it is.

I don't think anyone ever corelated 'interest' to direct purchase or use, but I would be surprised if there wasn't some correlation. Last Ask Audio Poll (2020) results below (it was 30K + respondents so a decent sized sample):

Ableton Live - 20.52%
Logic Pro - 19.20%
Pro Tools - 16.13%
Cubase - 10.43%
FL Studio - 6.40%
Studio One - 5.71%
Reason - 4.98%
Reaper - 4.96%
Other - 4.28%
Sonar - 3.01%
GarageBand - 2.22%
Bitwig Studio - 1.22%
Digital Perfomer - 0.94%

Reaper does appear to be catching up with Studio One but it also also very cheap at $60 and one of the most frequently updated DAWS with a lot of user generate content such as some pretty impressive themes as well...personally, I don't care for it and I use Studio One

My final thoughts on this are that at some point Bitwig will sell to a larger company, this is the historical trend and even more likely in the future...at that point there will be big marketing budgets but everyone will long for the old days when Bigwig was small an niche!

I headed to Ask.Audio's site and checked the total amount of courses they have for the DAW's mentioned above.

Looking at top 4, it's understandable why Ask.Audio's survey is showing what it shows. But the worlds most used DAW, FL Studio, on position 6, with only 6.40%? Also, 94 Reason tutorials in total, but only 4.98%?

You can make millions of assumptions based on figures, and you can "prove" anything with statistics, right? :)
