"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" !

I guess no one can prove FL Studio is worlds most used DAW!

Maybe it has been bought a lot over the last 23 years as the entry is very cheap that its not worth pirating and you can't sell it so there is only one way in! Of course that doesn't say how many people are still 'using it', but judging but the forums I would think it's pretty active (and I bought it for the first time this year despite remembering its launch, so there is another one!)

Image Line Forums: 1.4 Million members, 1.6 Million post....they seem to get about 500+ new members on the forum a day which seems amazing to me, they also have 1/2 Million followers on YouTube....definitely popular!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

It’s not really the direct comparisons that would bother me if I was Bitwig owner/investor, it would be the lack of growth in awareness in 7 years, no real spikes in interest when things like the grid are launched....they all play to the existing niche market (like me) who are already in!
Bitwig is niche and it is going to stay niche... Eurorack is also niche, but it is a thriving niche. Hopefully Bitwig will thrive too.

That is just some FL Studio marketing talk... because you cannot sell it, you are a user for life, even if you long since moved on to something else or bought it and never even used it.

IMO, Ableton Live is the most actively used DAW

When I do a search for a soft synth tutorials, hardware synths, external sequencers, other gear tutorials/reviews, the DAW I most often see is Live. I rarely ever see FL Studio on their screens.

Look at the midi controller market. Companies cater to Live more than any other DAW. Even Presonus controllers are marketed as having Live integration. Midi controllers marketing often lists compatible DAWs and FL Studio is hardly mentioned.

Take something like Elektron Overbridge. First DAW officially supported was Live. The current marketing blurb says "Fully integrate your Overbridge compatible Elektron instruments with Ableton Live, Logic, Bitwig, Studio One, and other DAWs". Again no mention of FL Studio.

I think that's correct. Only they can somehow afford to have over 600 employees, whereas giants like Steinberg has quarter of that and Presonus or Imageline only 8th of that. It's actually quite surprising how slow is Live being developed (although 11 was pretty big) considering the size of the company.

I'm not sure its just marketing talk based on the forum 'current' activity, there are around 250-300 new posts everyday. The Live forum is very quite in comparison! FL may be the most actively used DAW as it is so much cheaper, but Live is certainly one of the best supported by hardware manufactures and there are a lot of free Live Lite licences around, so who knows!

Regarding size and number of employees- not sure where the numbers are coming from but 'owler' as reported by Google) has totally differing numbers...I guess we will never really know!

The most 'active' (posting) forum users is as good an indication of 'active' users' that I can think of!

The main problem you have here its always the same 4 or 5 people that do the majority of talking :hihi: Over and over again whenever a new topic appears in this subforum

Mine runs out in June(My first year since I bought BW). In a whole year I got 1 point release which didnt bring much to my workflow except the midi/automation streching, so Im a bit hesitant about renewing.
I had my eye on BW since v1 and I expected releses would be a bit more active like they claimed when the annual plan was introduced.
While the Grid is interesting I dont find it very usable for my work since it gets too complicated quickly- also the oscilators sound plasticky to me. I get much better and quicker results from 3rd party stuff.
The modulation stuff is fun but I found myself not using it quite soon because 3rd party stuff has their own modulation options.
Its the core stuff that is really lacking or has been strangely implemented- the audio warp markers, automation,... They should realy also focus on this area.

We'll see, but i dont think there will be another release before my plan runs out.

I have 2 thoughs about it:
- grid & modulation are Bitwig's "core" features
- what else drew you to Bitwig?

The size of the development team for most DAWs is the same, 5-15 people, the size of the distribution and marketing teams can vary widely. Ableton has a huge marketing team.

Curiosity as a Live user. It seemed to solve some problems that Live had, but also brought quite a few that Live didnt.

To add, Reapers official company size is something like three people. There are a half dozen super important script and teaching people who likely are not paid, but the actual team is as small as it gets. This is true of Digital Performer as well, MOTU is a 40 odd people company, but that's mostly because of their hardware arm, distribution etc. and it splits their developers into writing drivers and interface mixers /FX etc. for that hardware as well as DP. I would bet DPs actual team was 3-5 people like Reaper etc.

I don't think you can read much into the success of a DAW on its team size, or its internet searches. Another point is we've seen I think a MASSIVE jump in the popularity of using DAWs since I started working in the box. In 2000 it would be really dangerous to be an unpopular DAW, but these days there's a huge demand. The math isn't hard, if you can generate 10,000 in sales at $150 you make $1,500,000. That's 15 people making $100,000, 7 developers making 200k.

Well, now I'd really love for you to elaborate, especially on the latter :)

Unfortunately no... unless there were an unusually short beta period and it is not even announced yet. It has been a sparse year for updates.
