Version 5.8 still records an armed audio track when play is activated. It should not record unless the Record button is activated-just like every other recording device. I've posted this issue at the Synapse forum again and Rich has so far ignored the problem-again. I've been around Orion long enough to know that means Rich either doesn't understand the problem or doesn't have a solution. Oh well no one else has complained or seems to use Orion to record external audio-guitar vocals etc so it must not be a priority. Imagine if you will it was midi data and not audio we are talking about. Every time you pushed play every bit of midi data would be recorded without the record button being activated. Every note from your midi keyboard,every knob turn, every bit of aftertouch or velocity etc. Then if you didn't want to keep that data you'd have to delete it from within Orion then go into the data folder and delete it again. Then I think you can see what a hassle it would be. It's no different for audio-record should not occur until the Record button is activated. I already have apps that record audio properly so I'm going to give up on Orion as a recording device.

The Styles are a nice addition-makes collaborating with other Orion users much easier. I can see using my own Drum Styles in different projects if I build up a large library but I don't see using the same bass line or synth part over and over. Basically Styles are just Loops that can be edited and adjusted to individual tastes which is a pretty cool concept. All in all I say we got what we paid for in this update but Orion will still not see much action here. Too bad because it has some really nice native synths and effects.

Ok I see what you're saying now. If you record a synth part with say WaspXT and you're browsing thru it's preset list and come upon the Styles folder it will overwrite your pattern when you select a Style. That is Stoopid as you say.

Just another workaround. Presets are Presets,Styles are Styles. If I want to load a preset I'm not looking to load a Style. Simple as that.

Apparently not as big of a brain strain as being an Orion beta tester is to you Krim. Record should not occur until the RECORD button is activated. Countdown to record should not record the count in bar( A bug I found in the first RELEASE version featuring count down)etc etc. As for the Styles/Preset issue,a simple "You are about to load a Style.Do you wish to continue" dialog box would suffice. I prefer to use the mouse for all commands, I don't like using keyboard "shortcuts". And yes I can use the mouse for Udo but still a workaround

I'm letting my ears rest so I thought I would bore you all with my Orion story. There was a time when I was the biggest Orion fan boy. The very first soft synth I ever played was the old Wasp. Orion crashed in less than a minute but it was already too late. I was hooked. I fell madly in love with Orion long before Platinum. Now let me make an analogy here. Have you ever been dating a girl, you love her, the sex is good etc? You're not looking for anyone else,you're very happy with your present girlfriend. But then you meet someone new,you weren't looking for her but there she was. You go for a mocha latte and boom you've fallen madly in love with her. Suddenly all your old girlfriend's bad habits start to become more obvious. She smokes,nags when you spend too much time with "those damn synths" etc. So you break up with her and now you're happliy in love with the new woman. That's the way it was for me with Orion. I wasn't looking for a new host. Sure she had her faults but I could live with them. After all the sex was good. But then along came FL Studio. At first I just gave her a demo, after all I was engaged. But then boom I fell in love. She had all the things that were missing from my old relationship and the sex was better. So now I'm happily married to FL Studio but a part of me still misses the old girlfriend Orion. Every once in a while I sneak away to spend some time with her to see if she's changed her ways. Oh sure she's lost a few pounds,wears her hair a little different even dropped some of her bad habits but she still lacks those attributes that keep me faithful to FL. It's no different in O Plat version 5-8. As much as I try to love her again she still misses those qualities that I need. Proper audio recording, record from first midi note received etc,etc...... But wait I've just met this sexy new girl named Energy XT. Think we'll go for a mocha latte. Ok my ears are rested now and you are bored to death so off we go to Starbucks.

This would be really annoying. How often do you accidentally click on a 'style' instead of a 'preset' ?? Shouldn't happen too often, especially when you are using a mouse (and you can place the 'styles' folder on top or at the bottom of all your preset folders).

I REALLY don't want a warning message for all possible user errors!

IMO these styles can improve your personal workflow a lot and if you don't need that - simply delete the styles folder. How can such a disposable feature be annoying or 'stoopid' ?
(alright, if you compare your relationship to a sequencer to that to a girl, this is understandable, but still pretty unreasonable. )

Hey your boy Bones brought this up first and he used the word Stoopid. And it's not User Error that Styles can be loaded in place of presets. That's prgrammer's error. The girl/sequencer story was just a lark not to be taken seriously.

Oh and just to set the record straight the Styles/Presets issue is a very very minor problem. If that was all that was missing/wrong with Orion it wouldn't be an issue at all. Actually it's not an issue at all for me now since I won't be using Orion again until the next "update" to see if Rich has finally learned how to code a RECORDING device.
