pls explain.. what good is it? note editor is more flexible.. also it collapse.
and if i select 16th note on you sequenzer, what is the length? 16? because sampler has no "one shot" mode

Exactly this. How is this not a step sequencer already?Jolaff wrote:Personally I don't really see what it could bring to Bitwig ...maybe if it could keep in memory many patterns that you could select and then drag and drop to the arrangement...
I'm sure when Bitwig will open the hood someone will make a step sequencer....
But for now....

I think what people want is a step edit mode where pressing a note on a controller advances to the next step to record the next note. Not using a mouse to paint in notes

I wouldn't say no, but seems a bit redundant considering most of my step sequencing needs are met with the arpeggiator, note fx layers and selectors.. So I don't really care either way. I agree that step input would be nice to have.

I meant is there any functional difference between the two? I have never used Step Sequencer tracks.
I like how Logic implemented the new Step Sequencer. You have Step Sequencer clips which can be as long as one wants. Each Sequencer Clip has its own pattern. Is that what you mean by Tracks? I would rather have that than a device as well.

Sorry, Yes, like that. Cakewalk's step sequencer tracks work in a similar fashion to your description of Logic's.pdxindy wrote: Tue May 11, 2021 6:22 amI meant is there any functional difference between the two? I have never used Step Sequencer tracks.

Would love a step sequencer in Bitwig. And I'd echo what toby said on page 4:
I wouldn't really want this to be its own separate device – notes/steps should live in clips, not inside of a device. Otherwise you'll have traded one kind of abstraction/complication for another, and it's basically the same as using a third-party step sequencer plugin.
Not sure how feasible that is, but I'd be happy if the existing drum editor could be improved & enhanced to enable this workflow. Seems unlikely but one can dream.
So the direct integration between note editor & sample/instrument slots is where it's at. It may seem like an insignificant detail but it makes all the difference. Oh, and size. It needs to be big and chunky and I don't want to have to bother with zoom.toby wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2015 11:01 pm For me one of the advantages a step sequencer has to the bitwig drum rack or other sampler plugin (like phalanx) is being able to drag and drop a sample in a row that aligns with the note data. Keeps things very simple and easy to remember when dragging in and sequencing a bunch of drum samples.

It doesn't have the immediacy of an X0X style sequencer, where you add and subtract notes and adjust velocity and duration on the fly. That combined with Bitwig's touch capability should have been a no-brainier for the Devs a long time ago (IMHO).Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sun Aug 23, 2015 12:46 pmExactly this. That would look something like this

It’s not so much about the method of entry for me, it’s more about the fun stuff you normally get with step sequencers like probability, ratchet, micro timing, polyrytems etc most of this can be done already one way or another within Bitwig, but it is rapt as easy or I indicate as having a dedicated track or device. Seem like a grid based device (with midi out!) would offer the most flexibility for customisation.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Yes, that's how it also works in Studio One or Reason and it would be awesome. I'd love that in Bitwig!pdxindy wrote: Tue May 11, 2021 6:22 amI like how Logic implemented the new Step Sequencer.
