Rendering Midi files to wav

In Traction why can't I render the full song to a wav file. It ignores midi files and only renders the wav files.
If I render the midi track to a wav file and append it it then just gives an empty wav clip.
Getting a bit cheesed now so if anyone has any ideas please.

Tracktion can only render what is playing 'inside' it - so if you're routing the midi-track to a synthesizer/sound-source outside Tracktion (e.g. a gm-synthesizer that's on your soundcard) Tracktion won't be able to render it (just like any other sequencer) - if you want Tracktion to render 'the midi'file' you have to route it to a vsti

Its not even going through any filters. Its just a straight midi signal. I tried that and even did it with other midi tracks to test it and its ignoring the midi files completley.

I have had bizzare little quirks when trying to render midi stuff.
Somehow, it seems that I have to "play" around with different options before I get it right....it never seems like I do exactly the same thing twice.
However, I always eventually get it to work.
I know that when you render midi files, I have to have the "through pass yada yada" (hows that for a technical term) thing on the right of the popup checked or I get nothing.

if it isn't going through any filters there's nothing to render - that's what I tried to say....

midi in itself has no sound - it's just information what notes to play, how loud etc.

Even if I freeze a midi track which is supposed to turn it into a wav file it doesnt play back within my song. Maybe its something to do with tracktion itself or my soundcard. I know its annoying.

why won't you understand that there is nothing to render within a midi-file itself - when there is not a vsti giving out any sound there is nothing to render! I told you that already in my first answer - there is nothing wrong with Tracktion goddamit

You cannot freeze or render MIDI. Fullstop.

You CAN send MIDI to a synth, which converts it to an audio signal.. if the synth is a vsti running in Tracktion then this can be frozen or rendered.

If you use an external synth, you will need to record its output as an audio track.

No, you just don't understand the difference between MIDI and audio. Neither Tracktion nor your sound card is doing anything wrong.

Tracktion is sending the MIDI note information to your sound card. Your sound card is playing notes through it's hardware, and outputting it through it's DAC. The audio output is never getting into into Tracktion, so there's nothing for Tracktion to record. Your sound card's MIDI rendering is, in effect, the same as having outboard gear. If you had, for example, a Virus that you were controlling from Tracktion, would you expect to record that without sending the Virus' audio output to your audio input? That's what is happening with your sound card.

If all you want to do is open up a MIDI file and record it as a wave file, there are utilities that can do that. One that comes to mind is Microsoft's DirectMusic Producer. If you want to use that, I can tell you how to "convert" your MIDI to a wave using that.

Ok guys I appreciate you trying to help and I guess youre thinking "What a muppet" so if I can explain a little more.
Track one is a wave file looped to provide a beat.
Track two is a midi clip that I add a few notes to and make a tune.
Ok so I want to mix it down into a track so that I can send it to a mate or burn it to a cd.
I click on render and it makes a wav file that only includes the wav part.
ok Now I can see what you are saying to me guys but...
This means my song is locked to Tracktion.
Surely there is a way for me to take my finished song from the pc into some form of hard copy. Its great if I was happy to just play it in Tracktion but I want to be able to distribute it to my mates.
Sorry if I sound a knob but I only want an answer please.
Its a straight midi signal, no filters nothing.
In The gare du nord track I can render that track perfectly to a file with no problem and that contains midi data. The only difference is that on my track I cant set it to default audio output which I notice the GduN track is.
I know there are people out there saying you cant do this with midi but it works on this track so why not others?
I know after all this it will be a click of something but I cant figure it out yet.
