Thanks for the listen and feedback, Peter - always appreciated!

hi marc,
i was listening again cause i was curious if you use any sort of "transition-sounds" (in edm - reversed rides, risers etc.) in your orchestral work. and hey i found one: starts at 0:47. but i dunno know exactly what it is. would you reveal what is used? and how?
it is better to have a track with some mistakes than a track without any soul

Hi Thomas

Two layers:
1) Orchestral cymbal roll - preset patch from an orchestral library with various ways of automating the intensity and length of the roll.

2) Orchestral bass drum roll - that ones's drawn in note by note as I didn't like the preset patch at all in this context. starts with quavers...quickly onto triplet quavers...onto semiquavers...triplet semiquavers....then demi-semi-quavers all faded in rapidly with automation on CC7 volume and velocity of notes. Timing of notes was also very, very slightly randomized.

At the end of the rise there are 3 'initial impact' layers:

1) Orchestral cymbal crash
2) Orchestral bass drum hit
3) Tutti orchestral hit

Damn, it is a good mix and pro sounding sound quality. Envy, envy, envy. However, I will read and learn whenever you show up in the village to instruct the tribe :tu:

Thanks for having and listen and the feedback!

Truth about this one is I'm still NOT entirely happy with the mix...It's the full- on sections - I always like them to have a sense of air and freedom as well as the oomph! Here, they don't quite soar enough for me and I can't quite work out why! :)

That would be nuances beyond my skills. To me, it is a blockbuster. That is generally my impression of your works. Needles to say, I pay closely attention to the classical inspired pieces and I like them very much so far. There are space and air that I cannot imitate for now, but I am working on it.

Used the phrase WAGBELL on a different music forum the other week... Triggered a deep discussion amongst a whole bunch of 'em! 🙄😭. I quietly snuck out of the conversation and left them to it! They just weren' t getting it at all man... Losers! 😂😞👀

I really like the panning, flute far left and far cellos and violas? far right 0:30->0:48 with, then with the big blast right up the middle.

flute far left and far right cellos and violas
They're actually not panned that extremely at all really, it just gives that impression to some extent when you combine the Width, Depth and Height of the mix. Strings (double Basses, cellos, violas violins) - they're in various positions in the mix as it progresses! :) That's one advantage of MIDI instruments...you can very subtlety 'move' the players around just a touch if needed for better balance in a later section of music! :)
big blast right up the middle.
i know what you mean and that was the intention to some extent to create the necessary 'oomph'! But, overall, the stereo positioning is actually wider in that section! :)
