Not just lack of sales but the fact that the plug-in side of the business was going so well, Rich couldn't justify the amount of time he needed to spend on Orion when it had become such a small part of his overall business.

 This is the best!
No double cassette decks? No deal! (Flipping is the coolest as well 8) What a nice era!).

Oh well, topic, I couldn't find any cool ideas! I think it can't be done as every DAW has its own style and workflow.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Not even instruments and effects from different DAW's ? Mockup screenshots ?

If you take effects and other instruments from another DAW, then you need to implement them with a style that fit the current DAW. That would be just a feature request then.
I wouldn't like to mix Bitwig style with Cubase style. It would be a mess in design.

Sadly, these companies above would never merge technologies, due to a list of reasons, pride being the number one killer. Though to play along, I'd love to see a sort of Presonus Studio One / Bitwig / Steinberg Cubase
1. Presonus Studio One - Pro Tools features, but better workflow - drag n drop king
2. Bitwig - Creativity workflow with audio/midi + great media browser
3. Steinberg Cubase - Midi and UI support + best media browser

Make a DAW like that, and it'd be great.

Think about how it would work, rather how it wouldn't...
