Yea I know! Theres a lot out there thinking they got a live one here and yea go on I can take it. There was a time that some of you were learning too.
It seems that I maybe bought the wrong program.
When I started with all this I went from a loop based wav file prog (Acid Music) to something I thought I coul dbe more creative with.
I just thought I could play some stuff on my keyboard and save it to disk and now it seems that I have the wrong idea about the whole thing.
But comon, Am I the first meathead that bought a piece of software thinking it would do something and it wont.
I thought that it would be a simple matter to just play something and record it.
Mackies web site gives the impression that Tracktion is the dogs bollocks of recording software and now its forcing me to use synths when I dont want.
The idea was for the stuff in my head to become real. How many of you have thought that only to find its not true?
Ok Thanks for all that helped.

you know Dave, the problem is not that you are asking questions or that you don't know some things - not at all - you're right: we all started there
- the problem is that you are just not listening carefully -
when you are asking others for your help and they are putting time and work into asnwering then please be so polite as to read their answers thoroughly
You are still not understanding - hell, I put all this time into answering - I'll try again:
You can't use midi without any synth - that is not possible.
What you've been doing up to now is using the synth
which is on your soundcard.
It's not within Tracktion but it's still some sort of synth.
It's a soundfont-player to be exact.
Because it is not 'within' Tracktion you can't render it.
But because it is not 'within' Tracktion it also means that all the changes you might make to the sound of this synth aren't saved with your song.
What you are looking for is just not possible.
There isw no sequencer which can do it.
But there is also no need for it as you can do it much easier (much more comfortably) within Tracktion.
Also you are much more flexible and can achieve a much better sound.
But therefor you must need to learn the basics and therefor you must read the replies to the questions you ask.
You aren't really doing this.
You have a concept in you head that is wrong but you don't really let us others help you correcting it.
All the problems you see don'tz really exist.
They are part of your wrong concept.
The synthesizer on your soundcard is playing soundfonts.
This is a sample-format.
You can easily play the same soundfonts within Tracktion.
You just need the correct plugin for it.
You can download it from here:

Really - I feel like talking to a five year old.

Sure I do, its easy to snipe and maybe I deserve it but its becoming clearer now. The mistake I made I think is in making a midi file and just expecting it to work. I know now and understand whats being said. My difficulty lay in the idea that something should be straight forward when in reality...... Ok so it may be straight forward to you but maybe some of us arnt as high up the evolutionary ladder.j_T wrote:Well, Dave ... there is something I'd really like to know ...

Rendering from external sound sources?
This must be what the Helicopter tool in T2 is for.
BTW Dave, Tracktion IS the way beyond the dogs bollocks

Tracktion is excellent for the way I do things, its intuitive and Ive made more music with it than any other software. I took some stick over this but I will get there in the end.

You are used to drive this:

Now you bought this:

and you are asking how to use the pedals as they aren't rotating.
Then we explain you toroughfully that the pedals in your new car are completely different to the ones you are used to and how you can use them.
Finally you are complaing because what you bought is so difficult to use because you can't simply kick the pedals and start driving off.

dave,
you *can* mess around with audio files to your heart's content in Tracktion, though frankly Acid is better for that.
if you want to *write* your own melodies then you are going to need some synths. These can be virtual in the terms of VSTis (hundreds of free ones, feel free to ask), or hardware in terms of your soundcard or external synths.
In the case of the virtual software ones, you can simply render the audio as you have been doing.
In the case of the hardware ones you need to record the output of those devices as audio files.
To me it sounds like you want a simple studio in a box, and if this is the case you are making life hard for youself by using the audigy's sounds. Get some freeware VSTis and you'll be more than happy.
