Held note cut on sustain pedal up, and a related request.

Hello. I know this issue has been brought up in the past but I could not find the topic. It's become a real dealbreaker for me.

On releasing the sustain pedal, one of the notes that is held down will sometimes just cut off completely, sounding almost like a glitch. This is particular problematic when taking advantage of the amazing timbral qualities one can create - really almost unique to these two synths due to their architecture - when playing patterns repeatedly with sustain down. The fact that volume builds up (in a glorious way!) while playing in this way makes the abrupt cutoff even more destructive. I've created Bazille and Zebra patches and composed specifically for those patches, only to find in the end that those pieces can't be performed since there's no telling whether a passage will suddenly be marred by this occurrence while playing live (and tracking too).
Is it reasonable to expect a fix to this anytime soon? It's heartbreaking to just give up it when it's the sole thing making the patches I'm programming unusable for my compositions.

I'd happily pay for any upgrade where this was fixed. Like even full-new-license level. If I was rich I'd even try to convince Urs to let me pay for hiring someone to fix it. It's become a complete showstopper in my case (and I do understand it's not significant for many users. )

And a related request: is there any hope of increased polyphony in Bazille or Zebra/HZ updates? I know CPU is a huge issue, but with the M1 and its successors on the horizon, maybe there could be a "high CPU" version with increased polyphony at some point?

Hi Brook,

can you say which versions of Bazille and Zebra2 you've installed exactly?
In the past year or two we fixed a few voice handling issues for some of our synths, so I'd like to take a closer look at what versions are installed on your machine.
You could also send all info to:

Might be easier if you or me have further questions.
If you do, could you include an example project file where you've recorded a few notes with, say, Bazille, with hold pedal down, where I can hear this in action with the note being cut off? That'd be great.

Thanks Viktor! Bazille is 1.1.1/10693. ZebraHZ is 2.9.2/10374, Zebra is 2.9.2/10409. This last came up with Bazille. I'm not sure if the last time it surfaced in Zebra was with the versions I currently have installed but I'll test / create files with these as well.
I'm away from my studio til next week - I have a keystep and a laptop with me so I may be able to duplicate it here if I get a chance, otherwise I'll do this as soon as I'm back in my studio and send it along.

So... I only have a keystep and a laptop with just the factory presets here, so I used the 3EE "Attic Pick" which has similar decay profile to the patch this surfaced on again right before I posted.

I was able to duplicate it, repeatedly - and discovered a related anomaly where playing notes with the sustain pedal held down continuously causes staccato, unsustained notes after polyphony is reached.

BUT - and this may be a help to anyone having this issue in Bazille who can temporarily live with the fix - these only happen, at least significantly, when polyphony is set to 16. In fact I had to set the 3EE patch to 16 to duplicate the issue. (the patches I'm using in the studio where this has happened are also at 16 polyphony).

Sending paired midi/audio files showing of each of the two issues, and a Reaper project file in case that's helpful.

I could not duplicate it in Zebra, so it's possible it was happening in an earlier version of Zebra last time it was a problem there. Will confirm when I'm back in my studio next week.
