So what if you use a preset? Im not a sound designer and have no inclination to be. Load a preset, make some music, tweak the preset; it’s not a preset anymore
Why do people insist on arguing semantics rather than make music with the 100’s of vsts they own but don’t know how to use

Very true.
And what if they’re told ?
"Hey, this song is using the preset My@ssrules from Nexus!!!
- WTF is Nexus ?
- It’s a synth!! He’s used a preset!!
- What’s a preset?”

Same could be said for acoustic instruments. Such as if someone used an actual Yamaha C7 piano on a track...
Somebody might say, "He used a Yamaha C7 for that part. How unoriginal".

Windows 10 and too many plugins

Maybe if they knew how to use them they wouldn’t be arguing semanticsramseysounds wrote: Sat May 22, 2021 11:45 am So what if you use a preset? Im not a sound designer and have no inclination to be. Load a preset, make some music, tweak the preset; it’s not a preset anymore

People just seem to spend all their life on here arguing pointlessly rather than being creative with vst's they supposedly own. Doesn't make sense to mePloki wrote: Sat May 22, 2021 10:05 pmMaybe if they knew how to use them they wouldn’t be arguing semanticsramseysounds wrote: Sat May 22, 2021 11:45 am So what if you use a preset? That is very different in my view because of the inverted order of things.DJErmac wrote: Fri May 21, 2021 2:31 pm Even if you create an awesome new sound and use it on a successful track, people are going to copy it. Then it's going to become a preset. There are million of examples : "popular sounds for Sylenth, for Spire, for whocareswhatthissynthiscalledlike...". So your non-preset will become a preset.
You made it first ? Great ! You are a sound maker. People will remember you for sure.
Be that as it may, I think there might also be a difference between factory presets and third-party sound banks. I don't think I would ever use a factory preset. Even if I liked one a lot, I would still modify it so as to make it mine.

I thought there was an Usher track with some garageband content. That dancy 'yea...yea..' track that was a big hit.sleepcircle wrote: Sat May 22, 2021 2:32 am i think some famous rihanna song was based on a preset from garageband, so yeah, they do

I bet that you don't chop down the trees for the wood, with saws that you make from steel that you smelt from the iron ore that you mined yourself though. I mean, there's room for some more originality there.dblock wrote: Sat Apr 24, 2021 5:29 pmI make ALL my pianos and harps from scratch one key and one string at a time.DJErmac wrote: Sat Apr 24, 2021 5:21 pm Sure. One I can name is Avicii : he always claimed he used presets to save time. And what about all the late 90’s hits that all used the same Roland JD800/XP80 pizzicato patch ?
A lot of people easily recognize factory presets from Nexus for example.
And for some sounds you can’t chose anything else. You can’t make your own piano from scratch, you HAVE to use a preset.
They’re everywhere.![]()
