It is all a complementary relation. Yin and Yang. Without junk, there would be no measure of quality. Without mainstream, no underground. However, even worse: If one part goes, no internet discussions :o

Hi AnX, just for the record (I cannot PM you): I did not react to one of your posts last week. Whatever happened... I had nothing to do with it.

Well, I took truffles the day before. Could be that the cosmos was still recovering a bit. I thought I was going to die.

Good conversation ...
The thing about popular music which has always struck me is the exaltation of certain things. In specific the various artists, songs, and ephemeral themes.
I generally know how this works too, because I went to school for it. The short version is that the entertainment industry is run by guilds. This isn't exactly a bad thing, but it leads to strange affinities for particular things and quite often the exaltation of crap in my view--which I know I'm not alone in.
The truth is though that anything played enough and heard enough becomes a part of our life experience and so we're attached to it whether we like it or not. This is where my mind goes in terms of some of the comments I've read here.
On the flip side, there's never been an era quite like now where nearly anyone can create music and syndicate themself ... Still, something about this new era feels off to me and I'm not quite sure what it is. It feels like a spirit thing.
Here we are in this crazy new era of possibilities and diversity of tools and influences and minds and it's almost like an identity crisis has resulted. I see this in the macro of society and the micro of my own mind and others.
I'm not sure what to make of it exactly.
