Bitwig 4 importing Live & FL projects - industry first?

One of the headline features of just announced Bitwig Studio v4 is import of - some - data from Live and FL studio projects.

More specifically (for Live):
What's Imported
  • Main arrangement including clips, tempo, time signatures, cue markers, and automation.
  • Clip launcher scenes including names, colors, and clips (along with applicable playback parameters).
  • Audio, MIDI, and group tracks (and their contained tracks), along with their data and output routings.
  • VST/VST3 plug-ins, along with settings and any automation.
  • MIDI clip features (such as MPE, note chance, and velocity spread) and audio clip features (like pitch/volume modulation and warping) will be imported as closely as possible. Warp modes are converted to the closest match.
Not Imported
  • Track input routings (MIDI From and Audio From)
  • Native Ableton devices
  • Audio Units (AU) plug-ins
:o

Any other DAW does this to such an extent?

That's quite surprising and unheard of, right?

As I have Bitwig 4 beta, Live 11 and FL Studio I was very interested in this- just did a Live project, its works amazingly well...lots of stuff (like for example Force, MPC etc could also exports as 'Live' projects, so they will probably also go in as 'Bitwig' Projects...I have an MPC Live so will gibe this a try....

Its a smart marketing move from a niche DAW that may be many peoples second (or even 3rd) DAW for certain functions...
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Such a col feature. I have quite a few tracks that I was planning to finish in Live, because manually migrating everything over would be a pain, but this feature may very well change that!
Always Read the Manual!

That's pretty impressive really - unfortunately I tend to use Live for the native/M4L devices more than anything but it will be a boon for many people working in both DAWs

This is a great move IMO, if it works well with Akai Force will be quite useful for me I guess.

There should be an open source industry standard just for this :!: :!: :!:

especially great because BWS works with multiple tabs, so FLS?AL projects can be opened on the non-active ones (FL is really great as scratchpad: "Patterns (FL) are imported as Bitwig scenes, with a clip created for each used channel.")
Importing FL Studio Projects (FLP)
Bitwig Studio version 4.0 can import some data from projects saved in FL Studio version 9 and later.

As the structure of the two products is vastly different, the process can be a bit hit-and-miss. Consider this as a tool for moving material across rather than a full project conversion.

What's Imported
Channels (FL) are converted to Tracks (BW). Supported channel types are audio, VST2/VST3 instrument channels, and sampler channels. Native instrument channels are imported as empty instrument tracks.
The first Playlist (FL) is imported as the arrangement, with its patterns & audio events converted into Arranger clips.
Patterns (FL) are imported as Bitwig scenes, with a clip created for each used channel.
Insert mixer tracks (FL) are converted to tracks, or group tracks (if multiple Channels were routed to it).

Not Imported
Any automation (clips or events)
Multiple playlists
Routings between Insert mixer tracks
Native FL devices
Audio Units (AU) plug-ins

Sampler still no slicing and time stretching.....

On that note, does Bitwig do time-stretching with tracks, samples, imported audio files, w/e? I’ve heard that some DAWs don’t offer this. Must admit, I’ve become accustomed to it being doable.

Not technically a DAW (as in software) but Akai's Force has had ALS import for a while now and it can export to ALS as well.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

Sounds like somebody trying to justify whey they don't use Bitwig :hihi:

I'm curious to hear how well that works!
