That is a nice discount there through Audiodeluxe. Here's the thing...I already own Reason 11 Suite. Would I be able to purchase the Reason 11 upgrade from them and just sit on the license until Reason 12 is released and register it then? From what I've read I'd get to keep all the RE's that I got with the Suite version and use them in 12. If that would work, I may upgrade to 12.SLiC wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 9:23 amNo worries- it actually says you get the free reason 12 I think- you only see the extra discount when its in basket (I got 15%)

Sorry, about that - I was really wondering whether to post that or not because it's certainly bordering on being creepy
- but the thing is I was interested who this guy is and what he has to say about his vision for Reason
(a thing that is most probably much dearer to you and me than to him, let's face it) and assumed the Props might have some video on it so I headed over to Youtube to quickly have a look - but not such luck - and this was the second result from the top and since that is a super-short video I quickly watched it- and I find it really pretty revealing as "power" and "being in control" are about the last things that come to my mind when it comes to realising ideas that I have - I totally love it when they take over and kind of get a life of their own and I assume (and have heard and read that for many - if not most musicians and other artists it's basically the same ) - so it is a completely different mindset and it's questionable whether he really understand many of the decisions he makes.
And being in control can also mean to take something away from others and turn it into something else that for some reason suits you better - to make their yours, so to say.
And keep in mind that this is (most probably) also the same guy who decided that it shall no longer be Propellerhead but Reasonstudios instead - the grabbing it and turning it into something else started with this already.

Yes, because no high-profile managers ever ruin companies before moving on to the next one unharmed... that never happens, right?chk071 wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 11:41 am I always said that hobbyist musicians should better stick to that. They don't know jack about running a business. Proven here every day of the week.
And no people who really have a love for the product they create and sell are successful with that, ain't that so?

I wouldn’t personally pin too much on what he said because it’s obvious English isn’t his first language and it seemed he was discussing entrepreneurship being good as it means you feel you have more control over getting ideas realised, presumably without the diluting effects of working in a big corporate structure. I suppose you could conflate that to riding roughshod over everyone, but I don’t know if that’s a fair leap to make.

I would love to give him the benefit of the doubt, but what we have seen so far from him does not look good, right? I bet his English is better than mine by the way.

Some people need to realize they are now far from the key demographic and a younger generation not steeped in the history of dusty old hardware emulation probably is

Like it or not it seems to be the way much of the software business has been moving for a while, streamline your offerings and offer subscription. For now I’m happy enough if we can keep the bought option, get upgrades at decent rates etc. I admit after using Rebirth I didn’t touch a Props product until Reason v9 so was the DAW part of the offering getting new features added regularly before he came along because I got the vibe it hadn’t had much love for ages?jens wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 12:28 pm I would love to give him the benefit of the doubt, but what we have seen so far from him does not look good, right?

And exactly for them Reason as a DAW would be a great modern and fresh alternative to dinosaurs like Cubase. I highly doubt that the rack as a plugin will do the trick for them though.melomood wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 12:29 pm Some people need to realize they are now far from the key demographic and a younger generation not steeped in the history of dusty old hardware emulation probably is
We will see - my prediction is we will see a lot of back-pedalling within a year from now where they state something along the lines of "we never said that we will abandon Reason as a DAW - that is our most important product and our dearest users". But a lot of harm will have been done by then.
Once users move on to other shores it's hard to get them back.

Its all good, I think most CEO's are a bit 'different' as is anyone who gets to the top of whatever field they are in (not necessarily by being a good person!). I am only a CEO as I started the first company in what became a small group of companies, so I am probably not like a typical CEO for a large corporation...no one would have 'employed' me in to that positionjens wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 12:19 pmWatchTheGuitar wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 11:55 am Oh shit, didn’t mean to stir up the psychopaths. CEO's and Managing Directors are just like football managers, brilliant until they have 2 bad quarters an then they are replaced....If things weren't working the replacements are often pressured to just 'do something different' so they roll the dice and hope for the best (trying to take creditors, banks, investors, staff etc with them!) but if it doesn't work they often just move on to another well paid job...the some one else has to try and pick up the pieces.
The music/software industry is going through a revolution at the moment, saturation issues, subscription, mergers, acquisition...I am glad I am not involved in that market, I much prefer just playing with the toys!

That is exactly the point - the last two versions did not. 9 had it in spades, 10 not at all. So 11 should actually have brought more improvements than it did - those it delivered were crucial ones though. But R11 certainly wasn't his doing as he took over just a couple of months before it came out.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 12:34 pm so was the DAW part of the offering getting new features added regularly before he came along because I got the vibe it hadn’t had much love for ages?
So R12 falls completely under his responsibility.
I understand the original wish to increase the potential user-base - not the current apparent attempts to replace it though.

Sometimes its not about what you do, its about what your competition are doing. Reason got usurped a long time ago in my opinion. I had left Reason some time ago for shiny new DAWS like Bitwig...and now with what they offered with 12 I am back, so maybe they are doing something right? Time will tell!jens wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 12:46 pm I understand the original wish to increase the potential user-base - not the current apparent attempts to replace it though.

I’m confused over what you’re saying then because to me it seems he’s just doubling down on what was already in motion before he took over - the DAW being left to die on the vine while the heavy lifting is spent on the Rack plugin.jens wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 12:46 pmThat is exactly the point - the last two versions did not. 9 had it in spades, 10 not at all. Sure there’s this cloud subscription thing, which is just what’s been happening in software for the last ten years, but even that isn’t supplanting lifetime ownership options (yet).

I really meant what I said. Most of the people arguing about how evil CEO's and corporates are have no idea how it is to be running a business, and having the need of a steady cash flow. Not only for the sake of the brand (some people here really seem to think that). Just like a company can't live without CEO's, or the executive floor, they can't live without employees, and customers which are satisfied with what they buy. It's just naive to think that CEO's only see numbers when they close their eyes. Not only naive, it's purely emotional, and sentimental.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Fri May 28, 2021 12:26 pm I wouldn’t personally pin too much on what he said because it’s obvious English isn’t his first language and it seemed he was discussing entrepreneurship being good as it means you feel you have more control over getting ideas realised, presumably without the diluting effects of working in a big corporate structure.
