Exactly this. Asking questions and making suggestions to Bitwig is a good thing to do.machinesworking wrote: Thu Jun 03, 2021 11:45 pmI do, there's no sense in complaining here to other users if you haven't sent in a feature request of bug report.

Yeah, avoid the larger point and instead focus on the word that was perhaps used wrongly...
I don't think anyone actually "complains" to the devs, but rather formulates ideas, feature suggestions or asks for explanation why something works the way it does - this is what I meant, obviously.

This is basically online discussions in a nutshell. People would rather focus on the worst interpretation of what you say rather than the best interpretation.antic604 wrote: Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:23 amYeah, avoid the larger point and instead focus on the word that was perhaps used wrongly...

Humans are literally wired to look for the worst case scenario. It's why optimists are so annoying!coroknight wrote: Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:42 am This is basically online discussions in a nutshell. The larger point is you are making all sorts of negative conclusions based on next to nothing... so either you are having a bad week, or checking the calendar it is time for you to sell Bitwig againantic604 wrote: Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:23 amYeah, avoid the larger point and instead focus on the word that was perhaps used wrongly...

I always envisioned an open track format containing all possible media data. Midi 2.0, audio, video, automation, dmx etc. I heard that the mp4 container has in principle all it would need already. But it would require in addition also information about the plugin chains, modulations and the mixer routings. There the DAWs are very different, which would make it more difficult or even impossible... Bitwig can do tricks no other DAW can do...

I wouldn't be surprised if they spent a week to a month of developer time on this.
Architecture meetings, prototypes/iteration, documenting, preparing for open source, etc. all add up.

Could be interesting for even Bitwig users alone.
Any Bitwig user could write a java app that allows script-like manipulation of .dawproject files exported from Bitwig Studio. Then you could re-import it into Bitwig Studio and bam! - you have some of the "Macro" / batch processing functionality you always wished to have for BWS!
(But maybe Bitwig already has some macro scripting planned, who knows?)
Also I'm imagining things like file conversions: think edit list files for video cutting.
(So there might be hope even if some developper doesn't implement it in their application themselves)

Any thoughts on https://github.com/PixarAnimationStudios/OpenTimelineIO ?
Their use of rational time strikes me a vastly superior compared to using float beats. At least if you have to convert between music time and timecode losslessly.

What I found hopeful is that the example code refers to "alias clips", which is one of my personal top feature requests for Bitwig.tor.helge.skei wrote: Thu Jun 03, 2021 3:10 pm hmmm.. this looks interesting:
"Open exchange format for user data between Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs)"

So at least they know what it is

Does anybody know whether any other DAW besides Bitwig Studio (e.g. Reaper) does support import/export of .dawproject file?
I think I heard something about Reaper supporting it but maybe I don't remember correctly.
If Reaper does, it would be interesting to know how to switch that feature on because I cannot find those options in Reaper's main menu.
