Of the web services I use, Bitwig’s auth service has been one of the most stable. You really can’t compare laser software to web services just like you can’t compare laser software to NASA space shuttle software.slackhead wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 3:34 pmNot sure I agree. I look after IT for a manufacturing company and I hate to imagine the responses I would get if I told our production managers that we can't use our tube laser machines because of the connection to a server a thousand miles away!coroknight wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 2:42 pm As a software engineer I'm inclined to cut them some slack.
This is not funny, Bitwig

If that is truly the case, then you are not very cooperative, I must say. Try to stay on topic, please.Kypresso wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 3:55 pmOr maybe you should limit your posts to kvr if thats the only insulting thing you can post.excuse me please wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 3:40 pm Or maybe they should limit their alcohol consumption. What a blunder!

Try telling that to a budding composer whose just about to miss the deadline on his first major break.

For my offline machine - the one I actually do work with - I have gone through the offline registration process and it has stayed activated. That is, I haven't had the recent temporary deactivation as mentioned by others in this thread. My other activated client is a linux box which is nearly always online but which i only use to e.g. check for updates. This one will see Bitwig revert back down to something like 8Track in rare circumstances of it going offline. So its version of activation expects to see a regualar internet connection, whereas my windows workstation is content, now, to not see one.mevla wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 4:03 pm Will offline registration get rid of the server need to run local software ?
There is a problem with the offline-registered computer and this new beta, though. When I install beta 2 it asks for my key, which i provide, and then promptly does nothing. There is now no option to USB-shuttle-authorize the version 4 Beta, dunno if it will let me authorize my machine until the final is released.

Related question, is it possible to run a beta version alongside an official version on same machine ? Taking care not to open existing projects with the beta, that is.stamp wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 4:40 pm Betas needs to be on line on first launch. After that you can use it offline until expiration.

Lighten up, Bitwig was just trying to be funny!(??)
But really, humanity is always just a click or two away from chaos and destruction. Bitwig was not the only service with internet problems yesterday:

Now I'm thinking about the scenario where I use bad mobile data internet or some proxy/vpn/firewall locking some urls and Bitwig will get wrong answer from "server" and will become demo and loose a project same way...

That’s why an offline activation should be immune to this scenario and I hope it is.Nemirov wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 7:38 pm Now I'm thinking about the scenario where I use bad mobile data internet or some proxy/vpn/firewall locking some urls and Bitwig will get wrong answer from "server" and will become demo and loose a project same way...
