Oversampling alters the sound

Good morning folks,
is it just me or does the oversampling alters the sound muffled, just by activating it 2x until 4x. Transients get smeared and lost.
What’s happening here?

I don't know much about it. From what I've picked up, it can change the sound - particularly when more high frequency content is being added; as in distortions.
Here's some reading, though I just skimmed through it: https://science-of-sound.net/2016/07/ho ... ing-sound/

Which version and which plugin? I did a null test with MCompressor V15.00m (beta) on a drum loop and didn't get any changes for 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x...
I only got a noticeable difference for 5x and 7x in the null test, but all the even numbers where okay. I couldn't hear a difference in the sound, but my ears aren't that trained yet so it might be audible to others.

Also perfect null test for me. Are you sure there's no processing happening in your setup? Try this preset
Code: Select all

I seem to remember something about correcting what the oversampling this in one of the equalisers for the next version though I can't find any mention of it in the changelog of the beta but I know that changelog is so far incomplete, have you checked if the latest beta resolves this? I'm not very proficient with checking sonic details like this in the manner you good folks do, so I think it's best to leave that part up to you.

It depends on the plugin. With EQs the differences may be the worst actually, since the filters will be slightly different for different sampling rates. But I think the differences should be mainly around Nyquist (sampling rate / 2).
