As I said, I am mostly thinking into the future when there's no more USB A inputs. Everything works fine as is. I am just hoping to streamline the wiring in back and take advantage of that 40gbps which should handle everything. And there will have to be a workaround sooner or later for RME and other devices: B-male =>C-female adapter seems obvious, but it is certainly a waste of bandwidth.

I think you're confusing thunderbolt3 (the signalling protocol) and usb-c (the physical port type) - sounds like you've got a usb-c to usb-typeb cable, or are using usb-c to usb-a adaptor ('tb3 dongle' would imply it's actually talking to the host using tb3 and actively converting - wheras the cheap/easy usb-c/a adaptors are totally passive)jancivil wrote: Mon Jun 14, 2021 9:51 pm it has a T3 cable itself. main issue with current tb3 docks (elgato, belkin et al) is limited usb-a ports (typically 3) - we've switching to using the HP thunderbolt dock g2 for macbooks as a result, as it at least gives 3 usb-a ports and another 3 usb-c ports (one of which can operate in tb mode for things like tb3 storage or monitors). The new OWC has four USB-A ports, three USB3 on the back and a USB2 on the front. As well as three thunderbolt ports. That said, different strokes. I don't find the limitation of USB A ports to be my main concern. What I'm concerned about is a combination of factors including form factor and the ability to host one or more drives.
