Repro 5 Midi learn and Mod wheel questions

hi, I just purchased Repro 5 and am loving the lush and beautiful sounds.

I'm having trouble with Midi learn and with the modwheel. I'm on Mac M1 running Big Sur and the newest version of Logic. Using an Akai MPK249 controller.

First I ran 9669, then I gave the Beta 11152 a try.

For some reason the modwheel on the controller isn't affecting Repro 5 sound on either version. I might tend to think it was due to my midi controller or user error, but the modwheel works automatically on other VSTs.

Midi learn is acting kind of strangely. on 9669, my controller doesn't move the knobs on the Repro5 GUI but I can hear it affecting the sound. On 11152 it moves the knobs between 0 and 100 very rapidly, but on the lower portion of the knob, if that makes sense. It seems to be working erratically (for example, I can assign the knob on the controller to control cutoff, but it works in a very rapid and erratic way). As a new user I realize that might be due to user error.

I wonder how much of the problem is due to my controller. I'm new to synthesis, and new to VSTs (I'm a singer and guitar player trying to branch out :)). I'm told that the MPK249 doesn't work well with logic. I wonder if I need to buy a new one (I've seen Nektar praised as a good brand).

In searching the forums, I see that some users were told to use VST2 rather than VST3. I'm not sure if that still applies and if so how to do that.

I can also see that the Uhe team is working hard to update products for M1 and Big Sur compatibility.

If anyone has any suggestions or instructions I'd be grateful.

Cheers,

Jason

Hi Jason,

this could get complicated, could be a setting in your MIDI controller, or some misunderstanding about how MIDI stuff works in general. Could you contact us at support[at]u-he.com to discuss details?

Yes indeed, thank you.

And just FYI, the problem with revision 9669 and MIDI learned parameters not visually reacting in the GUI was a known issue of the AU format caused by Big Sur, this will work fine in the next Repro update.

Thanks for the info. Do you have an ETA for the next update?

Post

We keep saying "a couple of weeks" since a couple of weeks.
We are still fixing and improving things, and new issues and side quests show up every week, so the best ETA I can currently give you is "in a couple of weeks". :)
