GUI doesn't respond well to Wacom graphics tablet

I'm testing if a Wacom tablet would be a viable alternative to using a mouse, and it's going pretty well so far. Unfortunately, the knobs in Melda plugins are super sensitive and XY pads make weird movements when I try to adjust the dot. I think the reason is that the plugin repositions the mouse pointer, but the tablet reports an absolute position.

BItwig and REAPER have an input mode for tablets, but I couldn't find anything for Melda. Does anyone know if there's a solution?

Try enabling Tablet mode in Settings.

Where in the settings? I can't find it. Is it not available in the 15.00m beta?

Post

Damn! I removed it recently, because of the touchscreen improvements, for which I thought it was and it became pointless... didn't think anyone uses these wacom thingies anymore... Oh well, reimplementation it is :o

Btw. you wrote an email as well, right?

Yes. I wrote here and then remembered that it sometimes takes weeks for you to answer here, so I also wrote an email. Sorry about the spam.

That was so fast and it's working perfectly. Thank you.

(You posted that in the middle of the night on a Sunday. Are you sure you're getting enough rest? Please don't overwork yourself. )

I use one of those Wacom thingies too - I have for years: it helps with RSI etc. On updating MAudioPlugins today from 14.16 straight to 15.01, I find the tablet has stopped working - my knobs and sliders are completely uncontrollable! The "Tablet mode" option that I had set in Settings in v14 is not there.

Did the fix described above not make it into the final release, or is there another hidden setting?

Windows 10, Wacom Intuos tablet.

The fix is there, but apparently it's not enough... when you disable Windows Ink (which is probably what you did), things don't go to well... I'll reintroduce tablet mode in 15.02... oh well... you wacom guys :D

Thanks Vojtech, that's greatly appreciated and I'm sure I'm not the only one affected.
I upgraded to the MCompleteBundle just a few months ago and the thought of suddenly not being able to use it was, well, devastating!
I can't recall the exact details now, but I do remember that Windows Ink caused all sorts of problems.

Maybe, being a KVR newbie, I should change my UserName to WacomGuy :)

Thank you JoeSaxon, Mr Wacom! for voicing this need. As it's well known, for each actual post there are several (if not many) other users represented by it. I am one of them and in this case and we here might be representing a larger future user base, since this tool offers vastly superior capacities than a mouse-centered workflow, for many uses.

Similarly to what a drum stick movement offers for drumming compared with drumtrack designing with a mouse...
Doing complex 3D movement on the air. Using the fine motor skills the hand-finger organ has evolved into, as compared with the wrist-control of a mouse slide or alternatively with finger sliding on a screen, as touchscreens do.
Simply put, it is the easy extension and increased speed of movement a stick permits, together with the pointing precision of a pen over a sensitive tablet that already detects pressure differences, is highly configurable and comes with quite mature software.

I acquired it just before the pandemic to work with fine spectral selection tools but was greatly surprised with the high quality drawing/painting software the Wacom tablet is bundled with, which clearly shows with examples, the level of potentiality of this interface.

Another Wacom (Cintiq) user here, nowadays using one of the newer models which have thin glass and good pencil-to-cursor correlation.

I can highly recommend Cintiq displays for DAW work, including drawing MIDI, automation etc.
When well-configured, it feels as natural as if the user interfaces were on paper :)

Regarding Melda plugins on tablets, I just installed MCharacter as v15.01, and obviously it also updated the free bundle (which I had previously). Gone was the previous tablet compatibility, so I downgraded to v14 for the time being.

That aside, Melda plugins are amazing. Currently MCharacter is saving my days in a challenging vocal project :)
Many thanks!
