I dug into this more last night and yeah, it's fantastic. The dedicated highpass and lowpass filters in the gate/expander section are awesome -- it's very easy to dial in punchy gating on drums, which is more cumbersome to do in the other BX consoles. It's also pleasantly full of character if you want it: crank up the input gain, set some EQ and gating and compression/limiting, turn up the THD, and you'll get nice-sounding smooth saturation. The parallel processing on the limiter is also killer: if you smash the crap out of your sound and then dial it back with parallel limiting you can get some great results.
Anyhow, I'm very impressed with this. I'm sure the introductory price is going to be stupid but that's fine, it'll be $30 with a voucher in not too long and I'll definitely get it then!

well... maybe the best news about this is that their Focusrite Channel Strip

Is now $19.99 if you use their voucher MEGA-SALE-20OFF
I can't imagine this Amek strip particularly has better sound. It seems not much new beyond usability features can get added these days... Looks good though - maybe shadows need to be toned down.

IMO it's not really about sound (I don't believe there's a huge sonic difference between various EQs, compressors, etc) but about how quickly & easily you can get to a sound you like. From that perspective all of the BX strips are good; it's just a matter of picking the one(s) with the features and sound that suit your music.

Totally agree. Want to buy this just because I love how it looks.

First time I saw it I thought it was beautiful. Still do. Those who don't see it don't get it.
That being said, from a purely functional standpoint some of the shadows do look like they're obscuring the readability.

Yes, sweet design. Makes me want it. Which is kinda the point, I guess...

Included saturation seems to be the best from all their channel strip emulations

I'm sure ploki will be typically annoyed, but overwhelmingly the feedback I've seen across the internets (apart from the usual/expected "omg! new plugin is the best thing ever!" type stuff) is that people overwhelmingly love the interface and the look of the 9099 plugin, with people even wanting this layout on the other consoles (which I definitely don't - I really like the layout of the SSL channel strips, and they fit an ideal position of feature density to my needs).
For me, I don't think the Amek is enough of a draw to entice me away from the existing PA channel strips I use, but it seems another solid plugin for those that want it, or are in the subs club...
