The idea of to capture the threshold of a instrument 1, and paste it to instrument 2. This way the frequency response of instrument 1 is used to carve space in instrument 2 and unmask it if necessary.

You could try
1. Side-chaining (the problem with this is the high latency at higher quality modes which can trip up the plug-in delay compensation in some hosts)
2. Along the lines of MAutoDynamicEQ (Source and Target), do your capture of instrument 1 and then paste the whole plug-in instance over to instrument 2.
