Yes, this is ridiculous.

I now have 2 licenses too.

I don't get it? Why would Mackie make such a simple error?

Jeez, how did you get to hear about it?

And yes, pull the link. It's not fair on Jules and can only serve to damage the interests of legitimate T users.

well, someone just posted another link to guitarplayer magazine website for the same free license offer. at first i thought, again, this should be something that people who buy the magazine get 'let in on', and the link should not be given out.

however, just going to the magazine website's main page provides you with a link enabling you to get a free license of tracktion, so i'm not sure anymore... it seems you actually don't have to buy anything...

maybe this is an oversight for them, too?
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

What is it with KVR lately...

This is a marketing thing. And pretty good at it. Not only that, it actually works - just regged Tracktion to run on my DAW.

But hey, be paranoid ;)

And then think about it... Tracktion 1.x for free... Tracktion 2.0 out soon... foothold on the market (yes, though Tracktion is appreciated on KVR, it's not a big player yet)... paid upgrade to 2.0? Draw your own conclusions.

Meanwhile, I'm getting grips with an amazing piece of software, generousity of the distributor thanks to a brilliant marketing move.

Regards,

JMH

PS If someone is offended... you got the point :D It's good software for free, legally, without hassles!

:?:

Does this indicate T2 becoming reality?

Has anyone installed those NFR-type-thing?

I hope you can't upgrade with that one! :D

Post

This as a marketing strategy could blow up real bad if the current T1 users have to pay for the upgrade to T2

Yep! I have a paid version of T1

Now I have seen the fact you give away T1 – I wont be paying for any T2 upgrades – ever

Existing user base gets priority – to win in this market!! Its such a basic - Fact - that bigger companies - Forget (or never had the notion in the first place) T2 is on my watch list as of now.

nfr copy huh?

well I registered for one and now have 2 licenses.

they probably plan to have different upgrade path for nfrs. this nfr is probably meant as something you give your friends so they could get hooked on too.

anyway, two licenses - 4 computers, wow.

having though about it for a moment or two I came to the conclusion that it probably means two things:

1. T2 is pretty close (I guess it will be out within a month for today) :hyper:

2. The update will be rather big if not huge. :hyper:

Good lord... I've never seen a group of people this paranoid since the UFO conference outside of Area 51. It's just a marketing tool... yes, NFR's will probably have to pay for an upgrade to T2 but so what??
Pay or don't pay, use T1 for free now.
Mackie is a huge fuckin' company, it hurts them in no way financially to do this.

As for Jules, great guy but he signed marketing rights over to Mackie... whether or not a free T1 is cool with him ain't really his concern now is it?

All good things to those who wait bitch... now it's time to change my sig.

Yeah - I'm gonna give the link to several friends of mine - most people will do probably - so when T2 comes out they have the old version for free (T3 will make it something like a very luxurious demo-version) and if they feel like wanting to upgrade they have to pay for it.

- that's good, generous, honest and clever marketing <- me likes :-D

The NFR version can't be updated. It's also behind on features and not the current verion. When you lose it, you lose it.

I dialed 911 and told them all about it
but they just laughed at me
