Which software would that be? People over here are always very willing to list their favourite delay plugins, but first you have to find a way to use it. Perhaps someone here knows the solution.
If the basic plugin can do as shown in my video clip then yes I can give it a try but first would need to get my software to work with these plugins:

This is a hybrid DJ and Radio automated software which I use to playback mp3 playlists like a radio station. I think I have looked into all options and can't find anything suitable which works so hardware seems to be my best option.

Nope - not unless they're all broken - you need to turn up the feedback - the nigher the feedback, the nighter the number of repeats...

mikehende wrote: Mon Jul 12, 2021 2:25 pm Yeah that was exactly what I had expected but it does not, it adds a modulation type effect, not repeating the snare beats.
In case of the RDS you need to switch it into Echo-mode... if it doesn't do normal delay with feedback then, it should mean it's broken... (perhaps the mode button(s) - do you notice an audible difference when switching modes?)

so a echo/delay plugin? good luck. there is literally thousands of such available on the interwebz :hihi:

On the RDS2001 there is an Echo and a Double button. I tried a few times using the Double button which gives a slapback or repeats the snare one time. I had tried the Echo button and adjusting the delay time and feedback but this didn't repeat the snare, I will try again tomorrow and report back on it.

This is strange though because I could have sworn my bud had the same RDS 2001 back then when he had made the tape with that song for me. I don't know where he is today to ask. only thing I had thought of was that maybe the Speed and/or Width buttons might also figure into this somehow? These are pics of the knobs.

Yes, the Double mode is for short delays - ADT-type of stuff and such (hence its name) - the delay time should be plenty of long enough - adjust it slowly from fully counter-clockwise to fully clockwise and check the pause until the repeat comes gets noticebly longer - at its highest setting it should be almost two seconds (1900ms) if I am not mistaken... then set it to taste - after that do the same thing (min to max) with the feedback.Fully down (i.e. fully counter-clockwise) it should be just a single repeat - but the more you increase it, the more repeats you should get...

No, as the front grahics indicate, they are only relevant to / used for the modulation effects (chorus, flange, double) - speed refers to the modulation rate (the frequency of the LFO) and width probably refers to some sort of stereo-effect (maybe with the help of a second, slightly delayed LFO?) - but I am just guessing here - I have no experience with the RDS whatsoever.

I didn't read the whole thread. I have Abby Rd chambers and if be happy to run something through it. Just PM me.

PM sent, thank you very much!

I must say guys, I am very impressed with that Waves Abby sound. I use a vintage Pioneer SR 303 Spring Reverb but looks like the ABBY sounds even better and cleaner, I will test the demo clip on my rig in a short while when I go to try out Jen's instructions, report back.

well for a start, the SR303 isnt a spring reverb, its yet another bucket brigade delay effect, like so many of those hifi 'reverb' units, and BBD's are not exactly the cleanest things around.

I wonder why a lot of people call it a spring reverb? To me it still sounds better and more natural than other reverbs I have used in the past like Alesis, ART and TC Electronics. What are "BBD's" please?

Post

Bucket Brigade Device.

There are lots of great reverb and delay plugins, bur first you'll have to find a way to use them together with your software. ;)

because, although they're not really doing proper reverb, just echo, those devices are sold as reverbs. and people probably think that's what the 'SR' stands for.

bucket brigade devices are solid state delay devices that rely on passing a signal ('bucket brigade' as per multiple people passing buckets of water hand-to-hand to put out a fire) through a chain of single-element analog delay cells.

There are a finite number of cells on these devices, and usually only a single output where the delayed signal can exit, so to make the delay longer you have to slow down the speed between transferring from each cell to its next neightbour. The slower the speed, the longer the cell has to 'hold' the signal, and since the cell is 'leaky' so more the signal degenerates.
There are also limitations on how well a cell can represent the original signal in the first place.

Compared to a complex digital model of a real space like the Abbey Chambers plugin, they're stoneage crude.

Thanks for the explanations, got it!

I see OtsAV DJ Pro has got ASIO driver support. If you have a sound card that has ASIO drivers and is routable, then you could perhaps run a VST host alongside OtsAV DJ Pro.
