Might be possible to do it with a virtual audio cable, like the VB-Audio one.

Im going to assume OtsAV thingy doesnt -need- to output over ASIO, is that the case?

Anyway this could be possible:

OtsAV -> ASIO soundcard

replaced by

OtsAV -> virtual audio cable software -> basic VST effect host(*) -> ASIO soundcard

(*) you wouldnt need a full DAW

WELL Guys, you all have helped me solve a mystery which has been baffling me for YEARS now, thanks a million! I just tried your instructions Jens, thing is, I can now get the snare beats exactly as in my bud's recording BUT it is not done with the Echo function, only through the Double.

I am getting it by having the Delay time and feedback where it's set now.

You were on the money with this!!

i assume the snare is on its own track? because there's no way a hardware delay can fully isolate one sound from a mix.
You were also on the money with the Delay time being too short!

Now to address the snare isolation issue, revisiting the Benidub and listening to the demo more intently I am not sure what's going on, maybe you guys can help me sort this out please.

At the 1.45 mark the snare is being repeated:

and so are the downbeats and piano and keyboard notes so I would say you are correct here too BUT if we can go back to my clip again please:

at the 30 second mark after the 2 snare beats with the delay applied the vocals start again and is not being echoed but only the snare is still echoed, this ultimately is what I have been seeking, any thoughts please guys?

There's no vocal in that video (which of the Benidub) at the 30 second mark, so Im going to assume you mean your own video.

And basically that comes down to what I asked before:
i assume the snare is on its own track? because there's no way a hardware delay can fully isolate one sound from a mix.
On the Benidub demos, it sounds like the whole mix is going through the delay, so everything is being effected.
On your example, not everything is being delayed, because the delay wasnt applied to the whole mix, just specific tracks ie the snare.

If what you have is a mix, the delay cant isolate specific sounds in that mix.
If what you have is separate tracks, then before you mix them, you can send specific tracks to individual effects processing that wont effect any other tracks.

What you could try is using an EQ or filter before the delay to partially isolate a set of frequencies that get sent to the delay. If those frequencies include 'enough' of the snare then you will get an approximation of delaying the snare on its own. However you'll also delay the other sounds in the same frequency range.
You'd then need to mix that delayed version back with the original, of course, and that may colour the mix.

The bud had a simple DJ rig with no isolation of any track's individual frequencies, of that I am sure.

I have done some more experimenting, I don't know yet how the bud was able to have only the snare delayed and not the vocals in that tune. The vocals is being affected on my end but I think it might be an issue of exactly where to set the feedback, I am closing in. With more experimenting as time allows I will see if I can get it to that point.

I also experimented with this on my Lexicon M200 machine and NO comparison, the old Digitech works way better than the lexicon far as repeats goes.

Did the guy have a dj mixer with sample pads perhaps?

Post

No, this was back in the 80s. As mentioned most likely he had this same Digitech unit and was the reason why I bought it.

Post

in that case you will need a mixer with a send/return.
then very precise tweaking of the send, so as to just send the snare or whichever sound you want, to the delay, this would be quite difficult with most tracks, unless they are quite sparsely populated.

It's ok guys, we can close this thread now, since I got the mystery solved, appreciate everyone's help!

Probably because it's the successor to their SR 101 and SR 202, which are indeed spring reverbs...

I am not quite sure what specific audio-example you are referring to here, but dub is basically a specialized mixing technique, where the dub-engineer play his devices like an instrument. There's a lot of info about dub-mixing out there.

Actually, this info might help with my next project if it would be possible. I would like to have OTSAV make a mix for me but I would like to apply reverb and delay fx over the tunes while the tunes are playing, might this be possible in any way please?

I figure my choice would be as first preference to use my hardware fx in some way or use software fx via VST.

well, yeah, as I described, assuming OTSAV will work with a virtual audio cable package.

A free VST hosts you could try for this would maybe be xlutop Chainer

(Note : VST plugins come in two 'flavours'; 64-bit and 32-bit. Chainer only works with 32-bit plugins. Some newer plugins may only be available as 64-bit versions these days, but there are tons of free 32-bit plugins out there.)
