damn...
there's nothing like a freebie at KvR to get the post counts moving...
I actually have no use for another two Tracktion licenses. I don't see this as being an especially stupid move on Mackie's behalf though.
Look at it this way. The groundhogging has gotten so bad recently that there can be no-one interested in T that does not know a T2 is pending. Many people may therefore be put off buying T1 knowing a new version is on its' way. This just allows Mackie to grab those users and hold them until the release of T2.
Most likely the NFR will entitle you to little or nothing of the standard price of T2, whereas T1 purchasers, as has already been stated by Mackie will get the 'difference' deal.

Anyway, I was happily writing music, or at least I was until the odd solo behaviour decided to give me a headache, so I'll leave you all to it.

I should think they would be put off buying T2 now that they know if they wait till T3 they will get T2 free
Of course this marketing message is not stupid – nor the marketing message that says Hey your T1 (non nfr is not worthless) you can still sell it – it’s the NFRs you cant
Nor the marketing message that says – we don’t want our current customers informed – we want money
I could go on – but I am now curious to see the out come over the releases of T2 for existing paid users.... turns out to be.

I am not going to debate - just state my view - in this instance of the T1 - T2 marketing as I see it.

I had just about given up on T2 - this is the final nail in the coffin. Why the hell should I hang around waiting for an upgrade to software I paid for a few weeks back, which is now being given away? Bollocks - FL5 will be a free upgrade to loyal customers. Image Line have their critics, but at least you don't get mugged like you do round here...

I don't think it's a bad idea. Why nail in the coffin? It's not personal.
T2 is probably near, they just want more users.
There will surely be a difference in the upgrade price. Sounds ok to me. (it'd be weird if there wasn't a difference - this is Mackie after all)

fair enough, a lot of people have, but:Bill wrote:I had just about given up on T2
You paid for T1 a few weeks back and already you are tired of waiting for T2? Known for your patience are you?software I paid for a few weeks back
I really don't know. I'm writing music with T1 and have been for over a year now.Why the hell should I hang around waiting for an upgrade to software
How are you being mugged? You admit you know T2 is coming. You also say you are waiting for it, so evidently you were intending to upgrade to it. So when T2 comes out, you pay a small upgrade like the rest of us. The people who got the free version pay some other (probably much larger) sum of money if they want T2, otherwise they can stick with their T1 if they want. How have you lost out in any way here?but at least you don't get mugged like you do round here...

This is a great way to market a product.
Just look at how great it worked for Muzy.
I can't think of a CD being produced today that is not being mixed on Muzy. See, we better not second guess these companies.
I am just glad they did not go with their second option.
Tracktion breakfast cerial.....with marshmello groudhogs......
