Big announcement for a bummer product.... Lots of other simulations already on the market.

Post

Already got all effects covered in the kemper. I still use a tubescremer in front with some profiles though. I don't see the point of trying to sell hardware effects in an already over saturated market and with a steep price tag too. No thanks.

Single effect type 'digital' pedals at £350 a pop, nonsense and another big miss from IK, Line6 and may others do this better and cheaper (and years ago...)
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Didn't they already use this name for a software product? Looks like nice hardware anyway.

The implications for Amplitube are a bit weird. Let's see if I have this right:

16 new algorithms for each of four pedals = 64 new/improved gear models that IK have been sitting on.

These will be available in Amplitube for X-Gear owners via a virtual X-Gear pedal. Does this mean that:
  • The best effects in Amplitube will initially be exclusive to hardware owners? Surely a software-only license will become available soon if so.
  • The best effects in Amplitube will be controlled from a multi-fx interface within Amplitube, which is itself a multi-fx interface? Seems clunky.
  • The actual "stock" stomp effects in Amplitube will continue to be a bit dated for at least the lifespan of Amplitube 5, while IK sit on superior versions?
Helix platform still looking good...

source?

EDIT: never mind, official product page says so :)
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

IK need to read what a boutique pedal is, unless these are very limited

Hand coded software in limited quantities....

I suspect even IK's marketing department just looked at the product and cost and said 'how the Fxxx do we sell this!!'

Wow, talk about underwhelming. As someone who generally likes my IK products (including hardware; I think my Axe i/o is terrific), this has zero interest for me, especially in light of what's already available and out there.

That being said, I don't object to these pedals existing; they may or may not make money for IK, but speaking just for myself, I shall now proceed to ignore them and never think about them again.

I won't, I would like the delay and reverb ones and maybe the modulation one. So that is another tick point for me getting a Helix. All of that and the FM4 models I miss from when I had that pedal and a bunch of amp models.

Expensive 'individual' digital modelling guitar pedals.

X-DRIVE distortion
X-VIBE modulation
X-TIME delay
X-SPACE reverb

I cant really see the point, going for the Line 6 HX Stomp seems better to me (they have everything in them 300 amps, cabs, and effects) these pedals only have 16 FX and you need all 4 of them to cover the range of FX a guitarist may need? £300 each = £1200 + VAT- 1500??, you can get a full HELIX or even a Kemper for that for that!

Anyway, not for me so I will move on.
The X-GEAR bundles are much less $/€ and even less with JamPoints

Post

HX Stomp is half the price of X-GEAR bundle, and it's an integrated system with all of the stuff in one pedal, with an ability to create custom FX chains. soooo...

i mean, you could argue that X-GEAR bundle is just that much better, and that may very well be the case, but it seems to me that an HX Stomp is better value, and FX quality, while being a matter of taste, is more than good enough for most people.

Eh, there will always be the reactions you see in this thread to any IK product and especially something new. Like we don't do market research and haven't been in business and growing (sometimes doubling along the way...) and know that not all items will be a hit here for some. There's a reason we haven't picked up advertising for these specifically on KVR, for example. We'll let you all know they are out (looks like someone else already did that for us) and focus more specific efforts where they are likely well-received.

Also, judging by our need to make more units for the initial production since one dealer wanted almost the whole initial planned run, I think we'll do OK without a few KVRians liking them :)

Yeh, separate 'DSP' pedals make absolutely no sense at all in this context, even if they were not so expensive...why would anyone want 4 separate pedals for a standard FX chain when everyone else makes it in 1 pedal?

Meh. I get to keep my money this time.No need for hardware.
