Newbie: glitches and master fader

Hi everyone.
I have an i9-7900X 10 core with hyper-threading, 64GB RAM, all drives are M:2 PCIE SSDs
Running one of the demo projects and it keeps glitching out, CPU showing usually about 5% but then flicks up to 100% (in the CPU monitor in Tracktion). I have it set to use the new engine, hybrid semaphores. I have it set to use 16 cores, but in task manager (oh yeah I'm on Windows) it only shows it maxing one core and most of the others are idle.
Is this expected? Why isn't it actually spreading the load a bit more?
Also I'm really finding the master fader operation a bit crap. It took a google search and video to even find the damn thing (who would have thought there would be a DAW that didn't just put the master fader by the other faders). But it behaves differently. You can't double click it to zero it. By the way any other DAW I tried you could double click and type in the value. I don't want my values to be dependent on my mouse resolution and shakiness of my right hand / how many coffees I've had. Is there a way to type values?
Is there a way to show the master fader alongside the others and have it behave the same as the track faders?
Thanks

Might be able to help you a bit with the master fader. Truth is, I really don't use it.
You can zero it by clicking on its fader, then--in the properties pane--there's a "Reset to 0" option that takes care of that.
But let me share with you how I handle mastering.
I create a track called Master Bus, generally near the top or at the bottom of all other tracks. (I put it near the top if starting a new project, or at the bottom if the tracks are already mostly set...it doesn't matter, as you'll see.)
I take each track (individual or bus or submix parent) that I *want* to hear and send its output to Master Bus. You can change the output of any track by click on the very end of the track. It might say "Default audio" or show a speaker in your case. But by clicking on it, you can instantly route the output to any other track.
So I route all my audible tracks (MIDI or audio) to "Master Bus." That sends all audible track to one track, which itself--and only itself--is heard on the actual master fader at the bottom.
Then, I can process that "Master Bus" track however I want: compressors, EQ, limiter, etc., without any regard for how many plug ins I have jammed into it. I can more easily set its audio output level (fast reset to zero, too!), throw an overall song fade in or fade out with a dedicated automation track, etc., all from one track. When done, I just pop Ozone on this one track and let it do its thing.
By doing so, I no longer have to deal with the master fader itself.
Tip: I also create a "Bounce Track" below the "Master Bus" track, set its *input* to "Master Bus," and then I can quickly render any track by soloing it and hitting record. That's a neat way to render tracks without freezing or rendering the whole thing--which is sort of one more thing that's not easy to do by using the master fader.
Hope this helps. I also think you can take some of these tips to any other DAW, too, to make things more convenient, but at least in Waveform, I no longer find the master fader any form of limitation.

Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

You've probably got the properties pane minimized. Click on the up-arrow sort of thing at the bottom left side of the window and it'll show the full size version with the "Reset Volume to 0 dB" and "Centre Panning" buttons, plus the edit controls to type in values (they look more like sliders, and can act as sliders, but if you click on them you'll get a typing cursor).
As to the CPU chewing, multiple CPUs/threats only help if you've got tasks that can be run in parallel, and I'd guess that demo lacks them. [Hey, Tracktion, you've really got to give one of those demos the boot, I forget which one it is but basically hangs my machine...]

Ok thanks
It took me a google search to find how to show the properties panel. It doesn't have any indication on the master shower-hiderey thing (the eye at top right). In the end I found a page mentioning F11, and there it went. The icon in the bottom right that does this has no tooltip (the others do).
It doesn't seem to show properties for anything else, just master fader. I would expect a properties panel to follow what you select.
As for having to open a panel, and click a button (on the other side of the screen) to reset the master fader, that's um a bit insane. Even a right-click option would be better.
I get that this is really flexible, but I think maybe the flexibility can be a bit of a curse when it comes to shipping with helpful default setup.
The sample file is saying it refers to some things that are not installed - I wonder if that's where the glitches are happening. I don't see a way to see what exact things I would need to install are mentioned though.

You can alt + click to reset the master fader to zero.
The properties panel changes depending on what you have selected.
You could try a full reinstall if something went wrong in the installation.

Thanks everyone. I don't think there was anything wrong in the installation, and this kind of behaviour will be baked into the EXE, which if corrupted I would expect to fail altogether rather than adopt alien behaviour.
I think if someone went through this app with a usability filter on their glasses, they could make a heap of small changes to make things easier and quicker to access, and most importantly _consistent_. Double-click track fader to reset to 0, but alt-click if it's the master fader? Where do I find that out? Consistency would be better. Also right-clicking the master fader just behaves the same as left-clicking it.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to do that (it shouldn't take a forum post, or google search). It doesn't tear off from the window titlebar. None of the buttons on the top undock it.
I've written software for 25 years. There are some basic things wrong with the UI in this app.

Oh doh. You showed me. I thought you wrote undocked, not unlocked.
It's not clear what unlocked even means. Does that mean it follows selection? I guess if you can lock it, maybe you'd need to be able to show multiple ones. I get why you might not want it changing just because you click on something. my bad.

OK, I see alt-click also works on the track faders. So there is a consistent way. Alt-click.
I note that Ctrl-Z does not undo fader movements though. So if you alt-click a fader, there's no way back unless you had a record of the position.
