I bought Kaleidoscope second hand not long ago and paid a little more than $99 by the time of the transfer. Great value in my mind and runs fine on my ancient i5 win10 machine. i opened it today to mess around and it doesn't run well on my six core i9 macbook pro under Big Sur.
shrug. i hope they get it together and update their plug ins. B2 is still one of my favorite sound design tools and sort of ultimate weird reverb.

I have no probs at Win10 with Kaleidoscope and B2.dayjob wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:36 pm i wonder if it generally runs better on windows? it runs like absolute trash on my mac and i can say the same about previous apple computers i've run it on.
What kind of problems do you have at mac with that ? (or link to post)

B2 is fine. kaleidoscope just runs terribly. pops and clicks when changing parameters, general sluggishness, steppy gui, gui lag etc. it's just kind of a pig. maybe it's a big sur thing. it was a better on my 2011 macbook pro running high sierra. all the more reason it needs updating.c_voltage wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 11:00 pmI have no probs at Win10 with Kaleidoscope and B2.dayjob wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:36 pm i wonder if it generally runs better on windows? it runs like absolute trash on my mac and i can say the same about previous apple computers i've run it on.

The pops and clicks are not due to CPU issues, it’s in the nature of this type of effect. nothing can be done about that apparently. As the dev explained somewhere in this thread, it’s supposed to be more of a “set the knobs and let the images do the rest” kind of thing.

yeah i get it. i like set it and forget it but these clicks and pops seem to be worse. regardless, at this point i'm not invested in it in any way. more or less indifferent and written it off as a bad purchase. so it goes. i'm willing to be surprised down the road.gondii wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 11:28 pm The pops and clicks are not due to CPU issues, it’s in the nature of this type of effect. nothing can be done about that apparently. Oh this. I thought some more serious things, like crashes.dayjob wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 11:03 pmB2 is fine. kaleidoscope just runs terribly. pops and clicks when changing parameters, general sluggishness, steppy gui, gui lag etc. it's just kind of a pig. maybe it's a big sur thing. it was a better on my 2011 macbook pro running high sierra. all the more reason it needs updating.c_voltage wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 11:00 pmI have no probs at Win10 with Kaleidoscope and B2.dayjob wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:36 pm i wonder if it generally runs better on windows? it runs like absolute trash on my mac and i can say the same about previous apple computers i've run it on.

Well, described UI issues i really remember that could observe at my old PC (and maybe it was more older Kaleidoscope build). But now it works quite smooth by UI (i7-8700), i even did check again right now, it's OK.
What regards clicks'n'pops, hmm it seems to me that i can't observe that. Well, i'm not consider the moments when you switch some modes (tuning, duplicates, or during produce some image operations etc), because still need to take into account that this is (in some sense) a half-offline tool. As by its nature it is close to the whole spectral editor heh. Therefore, i believe you not mean occasions during this actions.
Also, even on my current PC it eats CPU quite noticeably, especially in some modes (and even at 1x quality).
Summarizing, when I have already configured everything and just run the plugin as processing, I do not remember problems with clicks.
During process also can be adjusting of the main knobs (those that are large, on the sides of the interface), they also do not seem to cause the described problem to me. (but ok, perhaps will need to double-check them in extreme modes).
On Windows the situation looks like this.
Else one nuance as i think important for happines with all similar things, this is avoid of little buffers in card setting (by chance ?). I set 1024 as permanent, and know that for some users it is unacceptable a lot. So, who know.

noob question, i had already my eye on kaleidoscope, and the basics aren't strange to me, but of course each new plugin, especially these kinds, and my concentration, o well... you can make the 'images' within kaleidoscope itself... the tuning files, you must make your self, outside i get that, that is not a way, i don't like.. so no prob...
because i want to used it without the presets, as ever..
why not ask a stupid question, once in a lifetime (and i have 1000000 lifetimes..)
$99 is a great price for such a sounddesign tool, although i won't use it for ambient...
the question isn't clear; can you make images within kaleidoscope itself? it seems; not.
no prob, in a way, me thinks.. affinity photo can make it, and no blue channel i read.. 1024x1024 or 2048x2048...
EDIT 2: it seems kaleidoscope works pretty well, even on my laptop, which isnt a bad one, i admit, but still..

You can't make pictures with Kaleidoscope itself, you need to make your own. An image library is included, though I personally don't touch it as it I like to roll my own as they say. You don't have to worry about blue, just don't include the transparancy channel - I don't really understand why but then again I don't have a proper understanding of those channels anyway.WasteLand wrote: Sun Jul 18, 2021 8:35 am noob question, i had already my eye on kaleidoscope, and the basics aren't strange to me, but of course each new plugin, especially these kinds, and my concentration, o well... you can make the 'images' within kaleidoscope itself... the tuning files, you must make your self, outside i get that, that is not a way, i don't like.. so no prob...

Plenty of tuning files are included, if you want to do something specific that requires a different tuning or skipping parts of the tuning you need to get into making or editing tuning files. There's about 250 different tunings included organised on 79 or so folders, for me that goes a long way but I realize some people find reason to personalize even that part further.

thanks for your reaction. o the alpha channell (i think...), i also don't have a proper understanding of those channels. perhaps i read a reaction to fast, something with blue... i misinterpret it, i guess..Gone soft wrote: Sun Jul 18, 2021 9:09 amYou can't make pictures with Kaleidoscope itself, you need to make your own. the fun or pleasure is making your own images, for me, as you describe. of course for the purpose of sounddesign, in your own way.
tunings seem to me enough, i guess... 250...
thanks, again!

I'm lost...
Can we have a hotfix pretty please?
