I'm somewhat doubtful. It's really insane. Even a big German supermarket, which always was known for bargains in terms of the stuff they offered, sells computers for 2.000 to 3.000 € now. Seems like people have enough money and demand.

At the moment, I can only plan to spend more than I wanted to spend. Doubt that the market will relax within the next couple of years. If ever. To me, it appears as if they just waited to raise the prices.

Actually, that is not true. IK MODO Drum - for example - needs a CPU with AVX instructions. There are probably others and will be more in the life of any CPU you buy now.

Still really unclear. If I upgrade, regardless of price, I want at least double the handling quality and I've been told that is unrealistic.

I have a 4770k. It's fine for the most part. If I upgrade, am I not still going to run into the age ol' chestnut of the first core getting the brunt of the work? So if so, then what is the real difference between the two? Is an AMD core handling of that pressure better? I gave up on benchmarks a long time ago as they don't seem to translate to real-world audio processing.

Been looking from i7-4960X X79 Intel side to...

Ryzen 9 5950X 829
Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gamign 270 https://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph16348/dpc.png
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600 MHz 64 Gt 379
Noctua NH-D15 115
Samsung 980 PRO 2TB 7000/5100MB/s 430
Crucial BX500 2 TB SATA III 194
Seasonic Prime PX 850 W Platinum 260
RME HDSPe AIO Pro 735
Fractal Design Define 7 160

Thats a list of parts I collected. There is no way I'm going to X299 - it seems quite dead and high DPC.

The X570 have a noise/fragile small chipset fan, get the B550 model.

Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600 MHz 64 Gt 379
The best(good performance and less headaches) RAM you can get is

Crucial BX500 2 TB SATA III 194
The MX500 is much better and only +- $10 more expensive

Fractal Design Define 7 160
Add one more 140mm fan in the front

I do not know any AMD B550/X570 with bad DPC, it depends on the BIOS
settings, drivers and the stuff installed, the LESS stuff we have running in
the background, better it is.
Here with my tweaked Asus TUF B550 with a very castrated Windows 10.

Services I do not need are disabled, Windows update is disabled with

Only the necessary(for *me*) stuff is running

BTW, you will need a GPU.

Man, that is some impressive optimizing!

However:

Could you elaborate please? I've had amazing performance on my old 750GB samsung :)

You probably will, some DAW's just work that way.

Figured. I wish I knew for sure. Mostly this computer works really well. TOTALLY got my moneys worth and a lot more. But it's been a while, daddy wants a new computer :)

Yes, I also use NTlite to create a castrated Windows installation ISO.
Here my configuration for NTlite, plus some registry tweaks.
Some Windows services can only be disabled AFTER Windows is installed, so
not much services are disabled in the tweaked installation ISO.

Back in the day, there were issues with SSD's. Are they kinda past that now? (I remember having to do firmware updates to my two Samsungs)

Post

Nowadays I do not remember any problem like in the past.

Post

:) That's good to know.

I don't think they are the badly informed ones.

I dont think that X570-E has fan? Or I dont see it from the pictures at least.. would it be a problem?
Yes, I didnt even put GPU yet in because I dunno what I'll get. Either I'll get some cheapo "show desktop" or then transfer current 1070OC there.
