It's a different plugin name/ID so the two live side-by-side. You'd need to keep the old version installed if you wanted to open old plugins, but as long as you did that, you should be able to recall your old projects. I appreciate all additions and enhancements, but never when something existing is changed. This is one of the most frustrating things with software, actually.
Reason for that, old projects will be broken, and there is a high potential that something you love or really got used to doesn't work any more.
I barely ever remember to do it, but I need to get in the habit of printing stems.
