Nice! There’s life!

And reassurance that the dongle is not going away, it just won’t be the only option anymore.

Upcoming Server Downtime

July 30, 2021
We would like to inform you about the scheduled downtime of one of our servers. On August 3 (CEST), 2021, we will be transitioning to a new identity and access system which could result in a downtime of 24 hours maximum. Of course we hope to complete the system's migration in less time and as soon as everything is up and running again, we will also notify you through our user forum and social media channels.

Please note that during the downtime you won't be able to activate licenses for purchased products and MySteinberg account access will be unavailable.

The migration to the new identity and access system is one of many steps we are taking to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction and to prepare for the new license management system we are currently working on. The new license system will not entail any changes to the existing licensing models. We will try to keep the server downtime as short as possible and apologize for any inconveniences that may occur during this time.

I thought so, but Jan’s bold text I’m hoping makes it more clear.

I hope.

How should I interpret that? Will I be able to use Cubase Pro 11 without the dongle or not?

As far as Steinberg communicated it on their forums, every supported product will support the new authorization system. Don't pin me down on it, as I only can repeat what I read, but, as far as I understand, that includes Cubase 11.

They’re just wording it that way to not freak anyone out that prefers to use the dongle. The dongle will still work.

But if you don’t want the dongle, there’s going to be a new license model available.

Yeah, this is what I remember but the above quote would contradict that? Now I wouldn't be surprised if users needed to upgrade to 11.5/12 to take advantage of new authorisation, just hope that's not the only new feature ;) :D

I think "existing licensing models" isn't referring to the copy protection method at all.

The way I read it, I think it just means that they will continue to sell perpetual licenses, and not switch to a subscription-based licensing model.

But I'm probably wrong. English is not my native language.
The more I re-read the same text, the less I am confident about any of it.

You could just as easily be right about it.

I know that was the other major concern, that they were going to switch to a subscription model (which they’ve also said they are not doing).

VSL taking their time with that, and also reassuring people who don't embrace the change particularly. They have to cover their ass so when they got the sign of change they acted.

I can't see how 'existing licensing model' 'isn't referring to the copy protection method at all'. But it could be translated from German, cf., the Cubase manual... :scared:

Cubase manual seems fine...

Have you read Samplitude's?

Lol, its like speaking to a half-fluent German.

This needs to come ASAP.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.
