@SmoothMountain You could be missing the font ( or other requirement ) required by F-em on your system, try running ldd command on the F-em.so file , you will need to specify the path to it. example :- my plugin is in my hidden vst folder in my home directory , so i use the command:

Code: Select all

ldd ~/.vst/F-em.so

the output looks like this :

Code: Select all

I'm running on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

I usually test things that don't work with the ldd command but I tried it again, just to be sure. All dependencies are there.

Also, Collective seems to be acting up again...

Even with the GUI issues, F-em is completely usable in it's present state, but not Collective.

Thanks for the suggestions though, I appreciate any help I can get!

Do you have presets installed in ~/Documents/discoDSP/Vertigo ?
Also "open" button brings File open dialog which can be under the plugin's window.

I just updated Collective from version 1.2.5 to version 1.2.9. The changelog for 2.8 includes:
"Fixed audio silence in 24 dB filter causing occasional audio drop outs on one or both audio channels"

I've done some testing, so far so good. It looks like I can actually use this plugin now.

Tracktion Waveform on Ubuntu 24

Out of the box an Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (or a flavour of it like Kubuntu 24) comes with the audio system being based on PipeWire, and the system functionality being provided by packages pipewire and pipewire-pulse. This has replaced the audio configuration found in older Ubuntu versions still having been based on PulseAudio/ALSA and JACK.

So, the current configuration in basic Ubuntu 24 is this one:
App (i.e. Firefox) --> pipewire-pulse --> basic management layer --> pipewire --> driver subset of ALSA --> device

however, limits apply:
App (i.e. Waveform) -->// installation of extra Linux packages required //--> pipewire --> driver subset of ALSA --> device

For running Waveform in Ubuntu 24, further packages first have to be installed to the Ubuntu 24 system! The easiest way to get Ubuntu 24 ready for advanced creator works is to install the package called ubuntustudio-installer, and to then run the app Ubuntu Studio Software Installer, and from there to add at least the option "ubuntustudio-pipewire-config". There will also be an app installed helping with the configuration of the sample rate and buffer settings as they shall be available in the system. Beyond this, the Ubuntu Studio Software Installer would allow to install collections of extra software, not only targeting creatives working with audio but also targeting the topic of video and photography.
Done!

Alternatively, for the manual setup of the missing ALSA and JACK compatibility layers to the Linux system using PipeWire, after having found out-of-the-box being established for PipeWire only the PulseAudio compatibility, the following packages have to be installed:
  • pipewire-alsa
    Waveform can then be used as in the past, with Waveform to be configured for the ALSA pathway.
    App (i.e. Waveform) --> pipewire-alsa --> wireplumber --> pipewire --> driver subset of ALSA --> device
  • pipewire-jack
    Waveform can then be used as in the past, with Waveform to be configured for the JACK pathway.
    App (i.e. Waveform) --> pipewire-jack --> wireplumber --> pipewire --> driver subset of ALSA --> device
For finishing the installation of the enhanced audio system setup, add two more packages to the Ubuntu 24:
  • wireplumber and ubuntustudio-pipewire-config
    WirePlumber replaces the basic, not being sufficient anymore management layer found initially in service in the basic PipeWire setup of the out-of-the-box Ubuntu 24, providing under the hood required more sophisticated management capabilities.
    The package ubuntustudio-pipewire-config cares to automatically get some at this point still missing configurations into place.
Restarting the Linux system eliminates having to hassle with any further configuration steps.
