Not left KVR as such (Last active: Sun Aug 01, 2021 07:27)
Probably no regrets as well for the first 5 threads started, because all is fair and permitted to get access to the Buy&Sell section.

Now you guys may continue...

not that I think of music as a competitive sport but
Prelude
has its straw in your milkshake

it must be 'diatonic', everything can be explained as relating to a tonic and there's no chromaticismz

there are competitions, the way concert pianists make their name for instance.
I considered very briefly entering one at CCM, it would have been quite some self-humiliation (by then my instrument had been ripped off due to my locker mate's negligence so I wasn't making enough sound, let alone the chances for a guitarist back then, besides the reality that I wasn't that good. Very few places even had a guitar program in 77-78.).

Then let it rain on us :harp:

My composition task ftm is to make sense of a guitar riff I insisted we recorded. Did a deal of work already, but found it was not strong enough for melody, so now my challenge is to make sense of it otherwise. Seems to point to an underlying rhythmical theme, which has to be counterpointed by a melody above. However, that means the melody still has to adapt somehow, and I do not fancy the suggestions by the theme so far. I got to be creative to make this puzzle work to my satisfaction. unrelate the underlying theme and melody as far as possible within the mode, it seems.

I can relate. I did one recently that was to make sense of a hot mess, knowing it was a sort of misshapen blob but as a sort a dynamic in time was 'good enough' for something and it does kind of glue it all together in the background, which was the supposition. So I just committed to it, and did the thing. and these monstrosities do have pulse and time latent in there.

the thing I'm working on now is not pretty

Yes, I actually remembered that you gave such an example when I had written the post due to a sense of deja-vu. However, I just nailed mine and allow myself to feel a little competent (self-reinforcement). It was no problem. Here theory comes handy. I knew what to do, but not how it would sound. Good to have a little pocket-Jeppesen/Palestrina at hand when it comes to separating melodies within a mode and give them individuality. We are dealing with florid counterpoint (5th species), all four species together, but with different emphasis: If one melody rely heavily on 8ths, you go 16th or 4ths with the other. You can use suspensions to avoid first species as much as possible (note against note), e.g. when one melody rests on a longer note, move the other, and vice versa. Use contrary motions as much as possible and avoid the direct/parallel/similar motions ditto. Palestrina I am not, but steal a few tricks from the masters, I can :D However, whole question was whether I could come up with a main melody I like, and I got one in ToH style using bagpipe samples. Will be our next release, where it can be demonstrated in practise.

Which is this one. Just for the sake of order and finishing what one started ^^^.

Tho lead became a flute and a hurdy gurdy and not bagpipe.
