Is there a good and SIMPLE wave editor around?

...I mean a free one. It should be able to edit 24bit samples, mono and stereo. The only thing I expect it to do is to cut and paste stuff and that's it. I'll only edit one sample at a time, so no need for some multitrack editor thingies (which I actually hate very much).

I could, ofcourse, buy something like Sound Forge, but it would be just ridiculous, since I wouldn't use ANY of the advanced features. Only cut and paste...
(and record, ofcourse)

So, is there any for free, or do I have to code one myself? :?

I think Audacity is what you are looking for. Haven't tried it myself, but heard nothing but good things about it. :)

:( I've used the Audacity for some time and it crashes all the time, is very slow when you open a bit larger sample and isn't really designed for quick and easy sample editing. It seems more like a freeware version of a multitracker (like Vegas etc.).

When was this? I found the recent versions pretty stable.
Been recording tracks of slightly over one hour, no problem.

I tried it in the beginning of the summer. Used it for about two weeks and then ditched it :( I've ment to try to look for an alternative ever since, but never actually got enough energy to look for one (until now, that is).

AS mentioned, Audacity is very good, as is Kirstal. However, that is more of a multi-track.

For nor much money Goldwave is superb

Hmm. Audacity seems to have updates after I tried it last time and the info says that those bugs I mentioned are fixed. I'll try it again now :) Hopefully it works better this time.
