Invalid keyfile for Tracktion 2

I've just purchased Tracktion 2; fully sealed boxed but from the USA (I'm in the UK). Put it onto my laptop and used a different pc to get the keyfile as its not on the internet. The mackie site accepted the licence key and generated a keyfile for the laptop but when I try to load it - it says invalid or corrupted keyfile.

I checked all of the details (machine number etc) twice but it still won't work.

The laptop did have Tracktion 1 (nfr - the free one) installed. Is this the problem? Is there a registry key I'm gonna have to tweak?

The thing is, the other PC I want to licence also has tracktion 1 (nfr) installed, but I don't want to try it because of the 2 licence limit.

First of all, your nfr version doesn't count as one of your licenses, so you can install on the second machine without worry, even if nfr is there. That's a separate license.

Next, I would try the second machine also. Remember to register Tracktion first using the serial number in the book. Then proceed to put the second computer's machine number into the second slot on your keyfile, and then redownload it.

Just for curiosity, are you using the "activate online" method? If so, then you should definitely try downloading the keyfile and unlocking Tracktion using the keyfile. That's how I've always done it at least.

Sorry if this isn't much help. Let us know if it still doesn't work.

Good luck.

Cheers for the reply, I can't activate online as my music pc's are not connected to the net. However, today I logged on to mymackie and it's not showing any pc's against the V2 licence. Maybe their system was generating wrong keys last night.

I will try again when I get home

I've just realized what has happened: the key file I downloaded is for the mackie mixing tools - not tracktion! The page must have changed while I was registering.....doh....

Hello now,

I was wondering whether anybody in the Forum could advise how exactly a Tracktion T2 keyfile looks like. I got the data salvaged from my crashed laptop and I did not find my paper Tracktion T2 licence code.

Any help and guidance on this topic would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and have a lovely day.

Best regards, udosmi

I have no idea if the format has changed from T2 to Waveform-11, but on Linux the keyfile will end in .tracktionkey ( if you can search strings from the recovered data ) .
the file itself contains your username, email , machine number , creation time and a binary hash [base64?] starting with '#' followed by a lot of numbers and letters.
You might try a 'live Linux recovery distro' burned to a usb where you could use the terminal to search for those strings within all the recovered data.
