Did you consider Urs and all the U-He team, to once conceive a DAW ?

Being among the best coder and UI conceptor around, i'm persuaded you might be able to create a very competitive one ?

what do you think ?

well l ... good question

I was mainly thinking of a DAW like Logic Pro, in where instruments and effets might be included natively and might eventually interact within their host flawlessly

as addons eventually ?

I love Ferrari so much

Now, if only Ferrari built streets too, that'd surely be totally awesome too!

A bit more seriously though:
This wouldn't help anyone, as u-he is still a pretty small team and building a complete DAW that could even halfway catch up to the established competition would bring developments of a Zebra 3, u-he modular, u-he drum synths, MFM3, etc. to a halt
And other develeopers that are more or less concentrating 100% on DAW development like Steinberg, Ableton, Bitwig and even smaller ones like Renoise aren't totally stupid either, so chances are quite good that there are already good DAWs out there somewhere which will not affect the development and continuation of plugins

We actually had hired a freelance developer once to build us one based on JUCE, but the project died in radio silence. It would have been more of an OP-1 than a Bitwig Studio, but yeah, as we say: Hätte, hätte, Fahrradkette.

A mini-DAW would be awesome to have btw. We could offer demo content for our plug-ins, in which our plug-ins work without demo limitations. It could offer guided tours through our stuff, and tutorials.

Most of all, it could offer cool means / workflows for sound designers, and every feature of our plug-ins would "just work" and not be suppressed, such as full alphanumerical keyboard control.

I'd say to be fair that what fabfilter said is true, a bit harshly said but true...

All you really need is plugin hosting, unlimited audio and midi tracks with audio editing capabilities and you are good. Most DAWs are extremely bloated anyway. If you strip away everything in Ableton for instance, using just 3rd party plugins, you essentially get a pretty focused DAW with great audio editing capability. How much time is spent on developing instruments and effects for DAWs anyway? I dont know, I would assume a lot of time is spent on just that. You already have plugins, creating a simple environment might be really nice for you.

Maybe Richard of Synapse could give his abandoned DAW Orion to Urs.

an OP-1-ish minidaw from U-he does sound positively delightful, especially if it still can play nice with a "big" daw somehow (whether that's just easy drag and drop of clips or itself loading as a plugin in other daws or whatever I dunno)

I'd love to see it myself. A simple vsthost app would be awesome. Sort of like, well, vsthost: https://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm

It would be a great tool for doing sound design I think. (Got to have a Linux version tho')

Cheers.

I guess for that purpose it could just be a Midi (2.0) sequencer whiteout any editing but the ability to load midi files. As plugin it would even have a market, as there is no plugin in this world that would just load midi files and play them. (Except for some overblown (for that simple purpose) DAWs which can be loaded as plugin)… The standalone then could load U-He plugins unrestricted without external Midi in…
