That is exactly what I am talking about but you are now either changing narrative or there was misunderstanding between us. I reacted to a comment about not having ability to save "sounds" and REs in a custom location (here is a comment: There's still no custom directory for REs and sounds?!).antic604 wrote: Wed Aug 11, 2021 6:08 amThat's not what we're discussing, thoughkmonkey wrote: Wed Aug 11, 2021 4:38 amYou guys talk weird things. Since they added browser (years ago) one can...
It works wonderfully you should try it.![]()
I'm talking about the fact that Reason / Companion doesn't let us choose location where soundbanks, optional devices & REs are kept. I wiped Reason 11 and made a completely fresh install of Reason+ yesterday and those 3 thing took over 25GB on my main SSD, which I don't want. I had to move them to secondary internal drive myself & make junction links so that Reason still thinks they're there.
That comment is broad and open for interpretation though - possibly wrong - hence my comment.
I now see what you mean but even that is possible. After you install stuff you can use symbolic links or aliases and move your stuff whenever you want to. It's a finicky thing but it works and need to be done only once. 10 min task.

1) I complained about not being able to set a custom directory for soundbanks (Orkester, etc.), optional devices (Pangea, etc.) & REs (3rd party and native, e.g. Reason Electric Bass)kmonkey wrote: Wed Aug 11, 2021 11:55 amThat is exactly what I am talking about but you are now either changing narrative or there was misunderstanding between us...
2) You replied with an instruction how to organise PRESETS
3) I said that's not what I was complaining about & explained again, INCLUDING that I used junktion links to manage that
4) You're now arguing this is what you've been talking about all along + explained how to do it using symlinks (which 'junktion links' is a variant of)
Yes, apparently there's misunderstunding between us

I can beat that: I have never used Recycle and have deleted Reason's loop lib by default. I make my own percussion, including Reason players, period. At least Reason does not come with 40+ gb loops like e.g. Logic Pro X. It has so many other great tools for creative and personal rhythm making that should be emphasized instead.EnochLight wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 12:08 pm Honestly, I haven't really opened ReCycle ever since Reason added REX file creation and basic editing back in version 7 (or maybe it was 8? I can't remember LOL). Mimic just drives that point home for me!I haven't bought REX files in many, many years.

I watch a video about the new sampler. Seems really nice and well featured. There are things I wish Bitwig had (like the time stretch in the sampler and slicing in the sampler). I like the straightforward simplicity of UI. No fuss no muss just drag in a sample and turn some knobs. It reminds me of the Quick Sampler in Logic.
One thing though, doesn't detect sample pitch, which they should add as that's seems to be where most samplers nowadays are going. Bitwig does it, Logic does it, hell even the MPC now does it. Another thing is that it doesn't do slicing by beat division or equal parts. I think it only does transient.

Personally I haven’t found anything other than Melodyne particularly accurate at pitch detection on chords or complex loops…I still find manual tuning works best in most cases (if it sounds good it’s right irrespective of key!)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Ryan makes this DAW look like child's play.
When I use it ,I am stumbling around like in a dark room.
I loaded up the reason Drums, made a simple drum beat in the editor then decided to humanise the groove so i open up the groove tool from the window, adjust the ticks by 10,play the groove again and NO sound.
I look at all my settings and don't know why it is happening.
90 percent of DAWs aren't actually made for musicians, they are made for nerdy tech heads.
The company who makes a DAW for musicians will clean up!
I think I will stick with Reaper for now.
That is complicated and nerdy too but i can bring up the actions list and type what function I want in the search tab and run that action and my probs are solved.
Most Daws make you climb through hoops for simple things,90 percent of them.
Us musos really aren't supposed to use them in reality, leave it to to the men in the white lab coats!
I had to increase the DPI on my monitor to 150 so as not to kill my eyesight,I have keratoconus in my eyes so concentrating is hard when you are squinting at a DAW.
I think if i want the sounds and synths and samplers of Reason,I will run it rack style through ole faithful Reaper.
Prog On!

You actually picked the most nerdy DAW. There are MUCH easier ones.Smasha wrote: Wed Aug 11, 2021 10:53 pm Ryan makes this DAW look like child's play.

I think the earliest DAWS were the easiest ones.
Now they have options within options within options,a nerd's wet dream but not really practical for musicians.
A muso uses his heart and soul first, the brain is secondary lol.
P.S. What is the MOST Intuitive DAW out there?
One,where you can adjust things without even having to look into a manual for the simplest of functions.
I started a Reason + subscription and thought this DAW looks fun after watching Ryan but I'm not Ryan,I'm a mere muso.
Learning real Instruments is easier for me than nerding my way around today's DAWs tripping over myself.
I think it is because Daws today are trying to cater for so many different interests.
I would love a DAW that just uses a mouse for EVERYTHING (midi kb input of course)
That would do away with mountains of menus, yes it would be slower but then I would not have to re memorise key shortcuts all the time which wastes time anyway.
A DAW which exclusively uses a mouse!

Reason as a DAW is so easy to use and so much on the geek-less side of things the mind boggles at the idea of people potentially finding it any nerdy... it's really just you.

I'm not a fan of these "gazillion of features" DAW's either, but, it's obviously what sells paid updates these days... would rather have DAW's with a decent feature set, and a clear line and vision of the developers, instead of those "do it all" feature monsters into literally any DAW evolves these days.
"Listen to your users" my ass. I don't need any DAW to do what Ableton does i.e. Devs shouldn't listen to users who have no idea.

Yes DAWs are like extremist left wingers, very intellectually racist.jens wrote: Wed Aug 11, 2021 11:28 pm Reason as a DAW is so easy to use and so much on the geek-less side of things the mind boggles at the idea of people potentially finding it any nerdy... it's really just you.![]()
