[Hive] Weird program change clicks/pops (Ableton Live 10)

Good morning,

while preparing my liveset for tomorrow I stumbled upon a weird behaviour of Hive (tested with the current and the previous version).
Whenever I automate a program change in the session view clip, Hive generates project wide click/pop (which is also audible when Hive itself is muted). I tried to replicate the problem with Diva/Repro, but those do not have this problem at all - program changes are butter smooth.
When I switch the patches via the Hive GUI, everything is fine, too!
Anyone has the same problems?

EDIT: Mac Mojave 10.14.16, latest Ableton 10. I just tested the same set with Live 11 (latest beta) which seems to behave a little bit better in this issue (but not perfect)

Thing is, the current version (Hive 2.1.1 rev 12092) only cuts the previous preset off and does a click-free fade-in to the new preset. As we tested and verified this functionality very thoroughly I'd say it's certainly not preset changes in Hive that cause this.

What I reckon could happen is that if the preset you switch to uses a wavetable, there's a possibility of a short spike in disc access ad/or CPU which may be an issue for Live.

It would be great if you could contact our support team about this - support at u-he dot com -, so we can figure out what's happening.

Hey Urs,

thanks for the fast reply. The behaviour seems to be connected to the "program change" way of switching presets, it happens when triggered via ableton live clip and when using a m4l-device for program changes. Is there any difference in the process on the Hive-side when the switching is triggered from external sources compared to internal (totally click free) switching using the GUI? I will contact the support :)

Cheers

I don't know my way around Live, so I can only speculate what's happening here. If the Program Change is just a MIDI Program Change, it'll most likely happen on a realtime thread. That's always a tad risky, even if Hive loads wavetables in the user thread later on. If it's a setting that was stored in Live somewhere, I can think of a gazillion things that could go wrong.

It's best to contact support and maybe our guys can reproduce it. If that's possible, we can get to the bottom of it.

Unfortunately there is no quick solution :-/

I just made a support request including a step-by-step instruction to recreate the problem.
If anyone else wants to test, just download this live10-project with 2 audio loops + 4 hive instances.
The first two scenes change the programs of the hives, the third is doing nothing.
You should note a click/pop in the audio when triggering one of the first two scenes (even when the hives are muted) if the problem exists on your configuration

EDIT: For my liveset I had to "solve" the problem by using only few program changes over the whole set and not using program change triggering with my midi controller - would be really cool to solve that problem for our planet-c gig :)

Hey!

Just wanted to ask if there is any confirmation mail sent out when support got a request? I filed this problem some days ago but I am not sure everything went right there :)

Cheers & Thanks

Not sure. Some of our staff are on vacation till next week, it's possible that your request needed one of those.
