But the traditional stuff traditional musicians typically use and do is very simple to achieve in Reason - due to its hardware-like paradigm - which is the exact opposite of what that dude claimed.
But that's assuming people even know the hardware paradigm. Most people who make music nowadays probably never seen a patch bay let alone a console mixer. DAWs are what they know and Reasons dogmatic adherence to aping hardware can be confusing to someone who's never even seen hardware before. Working with hardware requires a certain way of thinking that most DAWs have obfuscated long ago.

Imo why bring the limitations of hardware to the software realm when it's not really necessary. One of the most popular DAWs, Ableton, completely embraces that it's a computer program. Reason can be fun to use at times but sometimes it gets very complicated.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

dellboy wrote: Mon Aug 16, 2021 1:21 pm Ok, my mistake, it is there at the bottom.

But why not have it at the top where it belongs ? Its a bit like supermarkets that make you walk right to the back to get a pint of milk so that you buy something else along the way.
Because it's a relatively new product service that they are actively promoting, and they'd obviously prefer people to subscribe. Not a big deal, IMHO.
Of course its a big deal. A very big deal in fact. A £239.88 a year big deal.

I wonder how many people stick with that subscription or just cancel after a couple of months ?

Can you leave with no penalty ? Hop in and out ?

This is actually my plan - rent Reason+ for only couple of months a year, which should actually help me finish music as it imposes a firm deadline.

Not really, IMHO. After all, it is 100% optional. There's a reason why subscriptions exist - obviously to make money for the service provider - but also because there is a set of customers who actually prefer to have subscriptions.

Of course you can. And everything will be right where you left it. You can even open projects made in the sub of Reason+ in regular (perpetual license) Reason if you've got the same version number installed. The problem is that if your perpetual license is missing any RE's that comes with Reason+, they'll show as a cardboard placeholder unless you buy them, and some things just can't be bought - such as the new sampler they just released. And currently, Reason+ is (arguably) on version 12, while perpetual license holders can't purchase that until 12 is released next month, so in cases like this any Projects simply cannot be opened in perpetual license Reason 11. This will continue to be the case throughout the year, as stock perpetual Reason will only get updated every couple of years, while subscription Reason+ will continue to get all of the point updates with features added regularly every year (allegedly).

I mean, you shouldn't be surprised that the devs would prefer you subscribe - it's a new service/product, but they don't make it difficult to buy a traditional perpetual license at all.
A quick glance at a half dozen DAW web pages I just looked at have a PRODUCTS link at the very top of the home page. Click link and you see your product and you are ready to buy.

What do you see with Reason Studios?
Well you see the big GET STARTED FREE button for the sub Reason+, but that's the initial home page. So, what links are at the top like all the other websites out there? Well, there's a link for Reason+ (that sub) so, no, and oh let's click "The Rack and Reason", that's seems like a logical top link link to click. Because there is nothing else, really.

That link has a quick blurb on Reason and oh! a link half way down TRY IT FOR FREE (a demo?). Clicking that takes you to the Reason+ subscription page. Don't want that. My mistake. No link out from this page, back button to previous page.
Scroll down a little bit more and OH! The Rack and Reason link I clicked finally has a link at the bottom SHUT UP AND GET ME STARTED. Click. Result: Sign in page for Reason+ sub. No link out. back button.
Ahhhh! Finally! There is a PRODUCTS link directly below that with Reason+, Reason, Sound Packs, etc (why the heck is the Products link at the bottom of a page? Is there any other e-commerce business that does this?)

BINGO! Ok, let's NOT click the Reason+ link, but click the REASON link!
Result:Whoops! It just sent me to the original The Rack and Reason page I clicked at the very beginning! Which of course will direct me to the Reason+ subscription page again. Don't you love loops?

No, they don't make it difficult to buy a traditional perpetual license at all...

Gotcha. Point is, we are all conditioned to click Product links at the top of a website.
And my post is what happens when you do the traditional search for a product, like on every other site out there.

I mean, I guess because it's not at the top in flashing neon lights, it's hard to see.

I guess my point is - it's not like something nefarious is happening. And as a brand new service, no one should be surprised they're pushing it first and foremost - but as has been pointed out, scrolling down clearly shows how to get the traditional perpetual license. Again, no big deal IMHO.

Well of course its optional.................................................for now.

Actually, I have zero interest in Reason, I already have two other DAWs, but bet your bottom dollar they are watching the subscription market closely, and I am worried that they will go subscription. Like you say, what provider does not want regular money. But regular money leads to de-motivation. Fat cats and all that stuff.

Well, I wasn't pushing a "nefarious" Reason agenda. Imo, it's really just poor website design that doesn't follow the traditional models out there.

I’m all for them offering the subscription for those who prefer it, but I find it a little insulting that the long overdue graphics upgrade is already available to subscribers, but those who actually bought the software and have spent a lot more money on Reason over the years have to wait months for it. Sure, you can still buy Reason if you prefer to own rather than rent, but they want you to know you’re a second class citizen now.
