Pro Tools/ Audobe Audition style audio editing.

I think it's time to say bye bye to the clips, and relegate them to just the midi aspects of the app.

nah, keep the clips.

they work well within the 'big concept' of Tracktion.

don't want no messin' with different kinds of track...

you can always edit in an external editor.

audio editing in Tracktion is my absolute favourite of any program's audio editing. i have so much fun with it it's crazy!

if i want to do 'sample editor' type things tho, i just use a sample editor. nothing wrong with that in my book

dude just buy audition. I started off with it, and I use audition for editing, mixing, and mastering tracks after recording or composing in tracktion. its a flawless combination. some people say its even redundant to have both programs, but I feel its money worth spent

if audio clips vanished, Tracktion would lose one of its' biggest strengths for me.

I use Audition and Tracktion and I'm not quite sure what you're on about?

I can't see T2 having Audition style audio editing. To be honest I wonder if most people even realise what that is, unless they have used it? I'm continually discovering new and incredible features in Audition and I've had it a few months now...

I can't work without Audition, though. FOr example, when I record speech/vocals using my SM58 mic and Edirol UA20 soundcard I get a continual hum going on. Also various bits of vocal splutter, heart-beats, saliva noises, nose snorts, etc. Perhaps I should stop recording Grampers! Anyway, in Audition you can block off a small section where there is a gap in the talking/singing, and the software will analyse all the background noise and then with a single mouse click remove it from across the whole track. Way to go!

Alternatively, instead of a wave form you can display an audio clip as a spectral view in which you can use the marquee tool to block of individual frequencies and apply effects to those alone!

Things like this can;t be done in any sequencer I know of. These are powerful and potentially very creative audio editing tasks which require audio editing software. I don't think that Sonar, Cubase, etc offer anyting like this power over audio. And I can't see why T2 would.

rpc9943 - I agree with you that Tracktion and Audition are both great and worth having. But now Audition acts as a ReWire host, and as it provides a complete audio recording/editing/looping/mastering solution, I would argue that the main advantage of a sequencer alongside Audition would be its MIDI sequencing, and we all know that Tracktion is not great for this. I'm finding Live and Reason better partners for Audition because they will run as ReWire slaves (which Tracktion won't) and offer better sequencing (Live, imho) and instruments/effects (Reason). Just my opinion, perhaps.

Get rid of clips????

How does that make sense?

Clips are the way to go. Having the option to make subsequent copies of the same clip "ghosted" would be a nice update, but that's about it.

I honestly can't understand what anyone would want to see changed about the way Tracktion handles audio, which is (as already mentioned) its main strength.

i wish clips could be "rendered and replaced"... like you render a bunch of clips spliced together then it could just replace it on the exact same time... wouldnt that be cool?

You mean like with the render-and-replace option? Yeah, that would be cool done on a sub-track level (ie. if you don't want to render the entire track), and is one of the features I'm hoping for.

Anybody who doesnt like clips is a racist. There I sayd it.

 Just joking, but seriously it would be ridiculus to get rid of clips. Thats the best part of Tracktion!!!! How the hell can you use Tracktion and not like the way it handles audio??! In combination with a wave editor its all I need. Clips are dope.

Don't replace clips!

Tracktion's standard for audio & midi clips make perfect sense. In fact, I think there should be MORE standardization between how audio and midi clips respond to global edit commands. I'm also looking forward to being able to drop filters on midi clips and gluing audio and midi clips together.

A built in audio editor is a given. Jules has hinted at this coming in a future version. Whether or not it shows up in V2? ...who knows?

i think Tracktion 2 should wave goodbye to the mouse. i only use shortcut keys anyway, and it makes for much more efficient workflow, so i believe that jules should remove the option of using the mouse.

it was fine in DOS based soundblaster configuration screens so why should we suffer with clunky mouse interfaces?
