Hi all, it's been a long time since I wrote something here last.
Hi, Jo, how is my favorite genius doing?

Well, I've just encountered a weird problem when rendering a track of mine, using Kontakt and some polyphonic legato instruments.
While it runs perfectly during normal play, once I render it to a wav, notes start hanging. I've tried it several times in various ways, but it's always the same. Not sure how or why I only start noticing this today, but it's weird. I wonder, if somebody else has ever encountered that?

Normally I would want to blame Kontakt, assuming they may have some switch speed issue, which has no problem in real time, but screws up during the fast rendering of the project.

Any ideas would be welcome! :tu:

Other than that, I've just noticed the many fantastic rendering options I somehow never noticed, like direct to Flac?! That's AWESOME! :hyper:

Hey Taron :)

I remember someone reported a similar rendering issue with some VST plugs of a specific developer (forgot which one atm) and it turned out that those VST plugs didn't like the fact that MuLab renders non-realtime audio (eg Render Composition To Audio File) in the user thread, which is perfectly legal, but some VSTs seem to suppose that rendering is done from a non-user thread. Don't know if this issue you reported is related. I did not receive other reports of rendering issues with Kontakt though.

Hope you'll like M9.

AH, can't wait to see M9! Haven't read anything about it, yet!? Cool! :hyper:
Interesting, regarding the threads. I had no idea there could be an issue. I'm sure it's not too common that Kontakt libraries of that nature are used with MuLab (unfortunately), and even among those it is rather special or rare to do polyphonic legato. Chances are that I'm the first, who ran into this. Ah well... not sure what could be done about it, but it's nothing life-threatening anyway.
Thanks for jumping on it, though, and I'm super happy to hear from you! :) ...I keep promoting MuLab where ever I can, simple because it's still the most beautiful DAW in terms of directness and simplicity, whilst still having this tremendous depth.
I'll wait until M9 to give it a proper review again and come back with some feedback. 8-)

You're the best! :tu:

So are you saying the issue only happens when using those polyphonic legato instruments and all other kinds of Kontakt rendering works fine? If that's the case then it's probably not that threading issue i spoke about. And in that case i suggest you send a detailed and repeatable bug report to NI.

Post

Uh, haha, yeah, that is a nice idea!
Yes, I've only just discovered that special issue when I wrote to you about it here. I'm still baffled that I hadn't ever noticed that earlier. Everything else has always rendered fine or made no difference to playback.
Again, I feel like it's a time related issue of sorts or a "run later" type of issue in their routines. Maybe even just the script of the library creators?! They all have some issues with legato scripts anyway.

It did, however, make me wish there was an alternative rendering mode, almost like a throttle of sorts, but it's like a "wild goose chase", as long as the real problem isn't clear. So.... never mind, Jo, it's all good.
