Hey all, I have been looking for a replacement for my Korg Kronos in this topic, and settled for Arturia Pigments 3 for all my synth needs. For my sample needs, I want good-quality acoustic piano (Kronos SGX-2 engine-like), e-piano (EP-1 engine), (tonewheel) organ (CX-3) and samples of various instruments (in particular orchestra, choir and ethic/world instruments). It seems IK Multimedia SampleTank 4 is perfect: very nice interface, samples of good variety and high quality.
I am a big fan of FOSS and using open formats (such as plaintext and csv). As such, I was wondering whether there is a way to accomplish the quality, breadth and convenience of SampleTank with a collection of open files (like .wav) and a player of choice. I know of SFZ, but is this convenient and of high quality? I also experimented with HALion and could make my own instruments from sample packs, but I would not call this convenient. I would love to hear your input.
High-quality sample library player with open structure (wav-files)

It depends. Convenience is subjective, but there are free tools and info available to help you make an instrument. An SFZ file is basically a text file with parameters and mappings to audio files, so the quality will depend on the audio files and how well the SFZ file is constructed.richwombat19 wrote: Sat Aug 21, 2021 12:08 pm I know of SFZ, but is this convenient and of high quality?
You might be interested in Pianobook - https://www.pianobook.co.uk/about
There are free instruments there in Kontakt, SFZ, and Decent Sampler formats, but not all instruments are available in all formats.
Sampletekk is a currently having a sale with some inexpensive SFZ acoustic and electric pianos on offer - https://www.sampletekk.com/index.php?ro ... arch=sfzed
