This was probably the worst interview with Steve that I saw. The interviewed tried it too much to have it about himself, too. And wasn't really prepared well, too.
Those are much better:

I really enjoy Steve's interviews, he's a sweet sweet guy.
The one posted on the previous page is pretty decent imho and definitely worth a watch.
From the ones posted by antic604, I think I only saw the first one with that lovely NASA lady as a host, which was really great. I'll watch the others, thanx for the links!

@Dombaeb -- I haven't watched the video, but I read this post as saying it will not be released 'this year,' due to being delayed for a new feature.Dombaeb wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 10:09 am Wow...this year! Serum is my most beloved synth even after all these years and countless software and hardware synthesizers. So, I'm really excited
nIGhT-SoN wrote: Tue Aug 24, 2021 7:30 pm The most interesting thing in the interview is him saying Serum 2 was planned to be released this year, but he came up with an idea of a new feature that he thought was worth of delaying it's release. There is no release date for now, but it's great to hear he's working on it.

Considering he offers lifetime updates, I don't think it's expensive. Those that got Serum, will get Serum 2 for free. If there will be a Serum 3, 300, 3333... will also be free for them.

$189 is very expensive in my book...
Nice that he offers future major updates for free, but, still very costly.
Did he say that he's doing lifetime updates, or is it written somewhere?

He actually talked about the pricing and his reasons for it in the video from the previous page. I admire him for not having sales.

Me too, there is no buyer's remorse.
I'm not sure if it's in license agreement or something like that, but I asked him about this over email and he confirmed lifetime updates.

I don't own Serum and nowadays you can indeed get comparable alternatives for less (in fact, even infinitely cheaper), but it's still a very common and competitive price for many successful synths on the market.chk071 wrote: Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:16 pm $189 is very expensive in my book...

Very expensive would be a fully expanded Phase Plant in my book, or $249 for an feature wise anemic synth from one of the big discounters in the VST realm.
But then again, i think i paid 499 Euros for Reaktor back in 2005
And lifetime free upgrades (which he also confirmed in threads on his forum when he was asked) is a very cool feature, that not everyone is giving, especially in the ~$200 “we are teh professionalZ“ realm
And rent to own is actually also a nice feature
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

I admire noone for not having sales. It's stupid, both from the developer's, and the buyer's perspective.
Of course, it's entirely his decisions, but, it's really not very smart.
Anyway, saying that the synth is too expensive is just my opinion, of course. Even with lifetime free updates (which I never know what they'll give me, if I have no idea what the developer's plans are for the synth... maybe he does a v2, and then moves on to other plugins. Heck, I don't even know if the developer will live that long, if he's a one man business, like in this case.), it doesn't make sense for me to shell out almost 200 €. Serum is a nice synth, but, it's just not the price region I would buy in.

Sales is no more than marketing strategy. Developers make sales when they need more revenue. If Steve doesn’t need it occasionally or sales keep on desired level - there is no need to make sales.
Look at Softube or other developers with overpriced products ($400-500 for one channel strip, for example). They make sales every week because they have a lot of plugins and almost everybody know about it so almost nobody buy plugins for full price. Actual Softube prices is -50% from retail price.
Serum actual price is $180

... and people who would not have bought the plugin at the original price could be tempted to buy it for the sales price. If they're not keen on getting it on day 1, like a lot of people do.Dombaeb wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:40 am Sales is no more than marketing strategy. That's a very imprortant aspect, which should not be left out.
For example, I almost never buy games at the normal price. I almost always get them, when they're on sale a year or two later. That's a great dynamic, for both the seller, and the buyer. Static prices are... well... static. Steve Duda can't expect many sales after, like, 4 or 6 months after the plugin has been released. Bad for him, bad for his customers. But, hey, he has to know.

I think that Steve is just other type. He doesn’t want to develop marketing strategy, he want to develop goddamn legendary synth
sooner or later, even you will buy it for the full price because this is the only option. And that’s fair, in my opinion.
