Or you can rent a synth until you own it.
Today, we are just spoiled by choices.
Of course you don't need Serum (or any other synth) if you already have a few other capable ones, but still... Serum is still in my POV easily priced very well for what it is inside the competition.
i don't have anything against sales, if they are reasonable, like the ones from Fabfilter and many others, i just despise the ones that go from “just stupidly overpriced“ to $29 on regular basis which basically tells their loyal customers that they are complete fools.

And I want to add that this synth will become more valuable than other grabbed during the sales just for sake of it plugins. And it delivers in every aspect.
Most plugins don’t deserve asking price but with Serum musician get really fulfilled sonic machine with wise designed workflow. It’s valuable.

Softube is overpriced EVEN in sales.Dombaeb wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:40 am Look at Softube or other developers with overpriced products ($400-500 for one channel strip, for example). They make sales every week because they have a lot of plugins and almost everybody know about it so almost nobody buy plugins for full price. Actual Softube prices is -50% from retail price.
Serum actual price is $180
I bought Serum at launch, and benefited of a very nice price. Back then, it was the ONLY real wavetable alternative (I mean the only one that actually allowed us to create wavetables, edit wavetables, etc.) since Kubik disappeared (remember Kubik?)
that buying decision was one of the best I made.

Price conditioning is a real thing. And companies are aware of it. That means the sale price is the real price. If someone offers 50% off every 4 months no one will buy it for the full price. Thats why I prefer the way valhalla dsp handles it. Very fair priced and never on sale.FapFilter wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:52 am i don't have anything against sales, if they are reasonable, like the ones from Fabfilter and many others, i just despise the ones that go from “just stupidly overpriced“ to $29 on regular basis which basically tells their loyal customers that they are complete fools.
For everything else I just wait for a sale

Fine by me. Just a shame that I can't justify buying a plugin I'm very interested in.Dombaeb wrote: Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:51 am I think that Steve is just other type. He doesn’t want to develop marketing strategy, he want to develop goddamn legendary synthsooner or later, even you will buy it for the full price because this is the only option. And that’s fair, in my opinion.
A last thought on the lifetime updates: Nobody can guarantee that. That's why I always said that you buy software for what it is today, not what it will become tomorrow. No developer running a one man, or even a couple of employee business can tell what happens tomorrow, or if there even will be more major versions of the software. That's just eyewash.

So they actually had an intro price sale?
"No sales" - I understand...
Could well imagine an intro price sale for Serum 2 as well then.

Of course not and i don't buy things just because of that, but it's still a nice gesture when such a things happens to happen.A last thought on the lifetime updates: Nobody can guarantee that.
I only have experience with this from much less expensive developers like TAL, HY-Plugins, and up to now Klanghelm (but he stated, that he might ask for further major updates in the future at one point, which of course is perfectly fine aswell, as his plugins are already a steal anyway)
