the best one is probably RiBS, but because i never got the newest version to play ANY sound in ableton BECAUSE OF ( its probalby even the msot cryptic ui of all time too...and theres no useful tut anywhere and the pdf is all in one hahaha), this plugin is the at least the fastest deleted one :D

crusher x
its great, but im sure the physicists in the CERN lab used it to prove the existence of the higgs-boson

Yea, they crushered it with an axe!

They misspelled "crusher x" or
maybe they just misspelled the "x".

Crusher X. Then probably padshop or reaktor.

Two that I like
Soundmorph Dust
crusherX (harder to use than Dust but still doable)

Also if you can get it cheap - say $20 - then Unfiltered Audio Silo is good. If you are going to spend more might as well get Dust on special or secondhand

soundmorph dust is on my backlist, i have a plugin stop, only one i shall buy the next months. i must!

crusher-x, it is quite an undertaking. but the results and possibilities, especially with MPE... yes the price, but worth it... i can work with it, but sometimes, i notice, i don't master it as well, as i must. but perhaps it also time, time is not on my side now, it will be again..

https://dev.rofilm-media.net/

for great tutorials for crusher-x, a lot are public, some payed. but rolf kasten does have offers, that you give all.. it are thé tutorials..

UA Silo was quite a surprise, it is quite great. bought it for $36 or so, don't remember.. but not much..

i use Silo mainly now, when i extract samples from a recording, within a DAW, and put SIlo as insert, to get new sounds.

or put as a send, it creates great rythms out of a recording. and adds more...

i own a lot of granulars (also M4L), not all of course... but all that take a slightly or more than slightly approach. all have there own merits.

coarse working against detailed working. sometimes coarse working/treatment gives you a lot...
and sometimes you need very detailed treatment...

o well granulars are great! the possibilites sometimes underestimated, not by all of course, but possibilities are quite extensive...

the quantum reality of sound.... so indeed for higgs-boson.... (although is that quantum theory??)

I am also on the lookout for a granular vst. It seems like there are very few options. Padshop2 is out with it's drm.
Seems like the best option is to actually get pigments when on sale for 100$. Quantra looks nice but it's the same price as pigments on sale.
I checked Unfiltered audios website for Silo. It's on sale for 130$ instead of 180$. Where have you gotten it for 20$ are you shure you didn't bought a cracked version ?

quanta is on sale, about $40???? great granular. also pigments 3 has a great granular engine.

unfiltered audio silo... yes plugin alliance, don't trust their pricing. in a while you can get it for less than $30...
but there was an intro pricing, and in my case, because i already owned some stuff, another discount, and somebody gave me a $50 voucher... so it was down to $30 i guess, but i, as EU, must pay VAT, no prob...

it is also in the Silo thread. when it drops, ask a voucher.

i can only give a $25 voucher...

Granulizer 2 has also its merits, also great, in sale as low as $18 or so, or €18....

i forget how many granulars i have, or better which ones, The Mangle, the developer does nothing anymore, but you can still buy it, is also great, for around €20??
for more real granular work The Mangle is 'better' than quanta, or is it?

maybe because i have several i use them in other ways, quanta has it all ánd MPE by the way, as pigments 3.

so if you want quanta, go for it on black friday. or Granulizer 2 (there comes a new version, when?, with more possibilites).

if you don't like the DRM of padshop 2, well, also great.

all are different, react different.

pigments 3 can even be cheaper, if you want to, if you own some arturia stuff... but if you don't... i already had some arturia stuff, so pigments (1) came cheap, and with free updates to 3, it will continue i think.

pigments 3 has also a spectral engine, in it's own way, but still great to work with.

there are also great M4L devices, but you have to have, well.... L....

i forget a lot, but they are mentioned here in this thread. the usual and the more unuasal suspects.

Grain, Granite, Portal (desktop) and Spacecraft and Borderlands Granular (IOS) come to mind first.

Pigments 3 and Absynth 5, perfectly acceptable granular engines.

Yeh, and still use Absynth FX regularly on my guitar. I can't think of another plugin that sounds better now that you mention it.

Grain, of course, great granular like Spacecraft. Granite and Portal i don't have. Portal i see the attraction, but in Granite, i don't see it. why?? o well..
