Snap Crackle and Pop and killing my tracks!!!

Tracktion is literally putting clicks and pops into everything i record these days... since the last update it seems to be worse. I was so fed up with it I went and bought a new soundcard (firepod) hoping it would remedy the problem... it sounds great, but snap crackle and pop are still there. I'm forgiving to a point, but I gave this company my money and they can't even meet the most basic requirements of a recorder... I can't even record one track at a time without clicks and pops. I have to go back and take hours to try and hide tracktions crap errors. I love how fluid the program is to work with, but I can't handle the stress of working with such basic problems the whole time. I was up until 4 in the morning helping prep a friends a track for a compilation thats coming out... just trying to hide all the errors Tracktion made. And this is suposed to compete with any of the other programs? Yeah. Once the hype dies down we'll see. I'm hoping he gets around to fixing these problems someday, and maybe then Tracktion can be a contender.

I do a fair amount of recording with Tracktion and I don't get dropouts.

I hate to ruin your tirade, but it's not Tracktion that's causing your pops and clicks. It's an incorrect configuration, either within Tracktion or within your soundcard. Also, your CPU comes into play and your hard drive configuration to a minor degree.
Try being less aggressive with your latency settings, and you will be rewarded!

My writing partner has just started getting problems with FL. He's been using it for years just fine, and his problems started around the time he installed teh latest version. Tracktion works fine for him so he is convinced that the problem lies with the latest FL release.
I know the only way I'm going to convince him otherwise is to completely reinstall his PC next time I'm in England.
I'm not sure you can always blame config, I certainly can't see what he has set up different to me (with have largely similar hardware). I think sometimes you just have to face the fact that something is screwed or your hardware and software don't like each other.

Yeah, and that's why I hate these threads. At the end of the day it's all just voodoo. You wander through the basic "it aint gonna work unless you.." list, and then it just beomes a series of tick this, untick that, reinstall this, wave a dead chicken over that, until something clicks or the thread author gets pissed off and bails.Lunch Money wrote: I guess what I really meant was that it's not inherently Tracktion's fault. The code is fine and doesn't by nature pop and click.
hmmm....
Man I hate this cold. I'm sitting here dosed up on ibuprofen, sweating insanely, and getting maudlin about the tragedies of system config. I need help.

Just to lob in my experiences. Only issues of drop outs and pops I have experience are due to a flaky (very early) USB interface on my laptop, solved by a PCMCIA USB2 card.

hell, one day i had shitty performance and it turned out i'd somewhere along the line changed to directX drivers instead of asio. i'm sure that's not what's happened to you as you've gotten a new card'n'all but it's worth mentioning that switching driver type/settings can have a big effect.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

I'd also start with using a bigger ASIO buffer (longer latency) and see what happens.
But indeed it can be anything:
* A dodgy connection in a cable or mixer being recorded
* Intrusion of a paranoid virus scanner scanning the file you are currently recording.
* Some malware bringing the system to a near halt (tried running AdAware or simular to clean up?)
Something is definitely not alright, but it surely is not Tracktion to blaim.

I bought a new interface (firepod) and even formated the drive and did a fresh install a few months back... still having clicks and pops. I'm on a powerbook that is otherwise just fine...

inkling, you never said whether you have tried any other host or have any other host installed on your system.
If Tracktion is your only one than you may want to download a demo copy of Fruity or some other host and see if you experience the same problems.
Again, it may be a latency issue or soundcard.
I was having a similar problem but discovered my input gain on my Terratec EWX was set too high.

I agree with seamonkey...
I have had some minor audio issues with Tracktion since the last update, and added to the MIDI note dropping bug that was already driving me craze I stopped using Tracktion for now (until the next update - let's see if these issues can be sorted once and for all!)
There's no point in knocking the software unless you have audio working properly in another application - this is a good test.
I get better recordings in Live 4 and stunning recordings in Audition. But not in Tracktion at present.
