Oh boy did i scratch that itch
I bought it some time ago and I really like it. Especially after the update where they beefed up the low end. The randomize feature is very cool too, I didn't think I use it much, but whatever way it has been configured I always find some really good and unique sounds. :)
What beefed up low end ?
Afaik , there have been no updates to the underlying engine since 2011, only macro scripts and gui changes
Maybe you're suffering from NEw Gui placebo ? :clown:

Effectworks already covered it, but i personally am suffering from GUI placebo - since i bought it solely because I tried it with LarsErik's TonicA skin. The original was too much of a turn off, and i kept turning away from it - completely unfairly because i've become a diehard fan since i got it.

They're real nice (especially the one on the top right IMO)...but I gotta know: what happens when the plug throws up it's yearly Easter Eggs?

I think replacing those buttons with an 8 bus output selector would make it more versatile without screwing around with the sound of the thing or making it incompatible with legacy presets. A change like this would make the “one pad per output” version unnecessary going forward.
While we're talking about stuff that would be cool to see added, I would love 4 mute groups so that each sound could be muted by another. Otherwise I just stick with the things that uTonic excells at like big ass kicks and fun little blippy percussion. I also love loading up a pile of sounds to my pocket operator from my computer so I have something fun to do musically everywhere I go. I honestly will buy anything sonic charge makes. They've never let me down with quality or interesting feature sets.

I've made many cues for scores with nothing but uTonic and effects especially when you need a nice futuristic percussion bed. I very often go uTonic> Spec Ops> Pemut8> Supercharger or Rough Rider.

My only issue with Microtonic is that I can never get a cymbal I like from it, other than basic noise high hats. I wish they'd extend the drum engine a bit to make a few modes that are more contusive to different percussion sounds. Or just do a simple sample import.

If they ever do this, I hope it’s a new product.

I agree with you on the cymbal sound, but after all these years I expect Microtonic to sound like Microtonic and I just add in additional sounds from other sources.

For me it seems like every other drum product aims to be end-all drum product and I often end up only using just a few features, but never everything.

I don’t think it’ll go that route anyways, or more than likely it would have happened already so I’m not worried… but I’m definitely not scared of a new Soniccharge product that can fill in some of those sample gaps.

Kind of. I don't remember who did it, or whether/where it is available, but:
