I don't care how many I have , it's never enough
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

I feel better about my 300 plugins in the last year.

But my sample libraries still fit on one 2TB SSD so I've got a very long way to go.

Post

3 years ago my 1TB was at around 850GB (including OS). Now, less than 100GB (including OS). I lot of selling/deleting. I think I had more stuff for the potential of it all, vs what I actually used/needed. Like, "oh, I might write a bunch of orchestral things", which I haven't done or been interested in doing since the early 2000s.

Post

Hehe, I have around 500 synth plug-ins in a folder, all 32 bit, Cubase doesn't support 32 bit anyway. Once in a while I just pick one and see what comes out of it, maybe something I can sample for a wavetable or make a loop with. Some of them actually sounds quite good as well. My other synths and effects I don't use I just move into a different folder

There is only one reason not to indulge your GAS, and that's lack of finance (ie, don't get into trouble, financially, just because of a plugin).
Artists actually own only a relatively limited amount of colours, they mix what they need from them.

You could try the same :)

some gather condomes and others accumulate plugins. What type of guy are you? :?:
if i weren't living with my gf i'd probably wipe my ass with plugins a week ago already

To be honest, most of what i own is not from the big guys - sans iZotope and FabFilter I guess? Is FabFilter considered one of the big guys?
D16, u-he, Black Rooster, Voxengo, WavesFactory.
My Components folder counts 146 files, some of those are demos and some freebies. :)
OMG 146. And here I thought the OP was looking like a brother. Man, my components folder says 882. And I love each and every one of those beautiful children, even if I don't remember half of them. And I'm adding another one tonight, Audio Damage new granular delay.

No regrets. No boundaries. No point - but fun.

I am a brother - at least in spirit!

If i discount beta access plugins, my Components folder is around 156 now - freebies included :)
So i guess i still have too many, given that i have more than i had when i opened this thread.

Structure has changed tho, no more black rooster, iZotope, and less D16.

Yeah I have uninstalled all izotope also. They made me so mad. Yes, bothers indeed. Lol

Well... IMO, iZotope plug-ins are among the best I have. But each one is entitled their own taste.

I love sounds as well and have too much, but it's a fine line where I need to spend more time learning new plugins than actually use the ones I have and use them to their best. I'm not a pro and like to mess around, but if I were to just write and produce songs, I'd slim it way way down. Been working in the music business for many years on the label side and honestly, the most successful and productive artists and producers, are usually those who don't really care about their gear and just treat them as tools to get their ideas recorded.

Gear is fun, but I think too many young musicians and to-be-producers are looking to much about getting the newest things instead of just diving down in to whatever they have to develop their skills. The software companies for audio plugins is 90% marketing and 10% development. Most make a really high quality now (incl many stock plugins)

First off, I meant BROTHERS indeed. Not bothers. But to clarify, I think izotope sound great, what I meant by they made me really mad and why I uninstalled them is their move to only updating products for their subscription customers. Just really chapped my hide.

Yes they are - but f**k their subscription exclusive features.

Nah.... I think you'd be surprised how many just use Serum and Live or Fruity Loops.

This thread is the Stamp Collecting end of the Electronic Music world! :hihi:
